Petetrucker07 Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 (edited) I just sprayed testors rattle can on a cab. How long should i wait before laying masking tape on it to mask off the stripes. I know "cured", but its an older can, Boyds chezoom teal. A few days? A week or 2? Or is it just a guessing game? Edited September 6, 2014 by Petetrucker07
Mike Kucaba Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 I've always relied on the sniff test. if you sniff and can still smell solvents gassing out, I would't chance it.
tbill Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 enamel or lacquer? got a food dehydrator? if so, throw it in that for a day at around 105 degrees, pull it out and mask away.
Petetrucker07 Posted September 6, 2014 Author Posted September 6, 2014 I dont remember, the label is gone. Im pretty sure its lacquer. I rarely buy enamels.
tbill Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 i will usually use my dehydrator when doing two tones to speed up dry time, i also use lacquer paints. i have done a few 'quick' two tones in a few hours with good results. if in no hurry, i'd say let it 'cure' for a few days to a week. if in a hurry, get a dehydrator, then you can be striping/painting the next day. i will usually put it in overnight at 105 degrees, turn it off when i leave for work, then mask/paint when i get home.

I also use this method with enamels without any problems

Petetrucker07 Posted September 6, 2014 Author Posted September 6, 2014 Ok, i couldnt remember. Its a pretty old can. Guess itll have plenty of time to cure now, a week. Itll be that long before i can get enamel clear and enamel gloss black.
