Old Buckaroo Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 I have noticed a lot of modelers paint the hood and fenders seperate. My question is how do you glue the two together after painting without disolving the paint ? I use liquid cement and it is not friendly when it comes in contact with a painted surface. Do you use a CA type cement ?
Petetrucker07 Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 I know im rookie at this building plastic. I still use testors red tube and good ol super glue. I havent had any issues.
Superpeterbilt Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 I usually put a small masking strip where Im going to glue during paint. Ive also just glued the fenders on, and then just masked them seperate from the hood during painting.
Old Buckaroo Posted September 8, 2014 Author Posted September 8, 2014 Ive also just glued the fenders on, and then just masked them seperate from the hood during painting. This is my method but seems like a lot of modelers do theirs seperate. I am beginning to think I am missing the bus on something ! Clayton - Thanks for the info
tbill Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 i think all the rigs I have done so far have been one piece hood/fenders, so I just masked them. the few pick ups I have done with separate rear fenders, I have glued the box together, then masked and painted the fenders. I find I like to glue as much together as I can before paint, i'd rather mask it off, then ruin it with glue after the fact.
redneckrodder Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 The one long hood truck ive worked on was an amt diamond reo and the hood was way too wide for the grill and i had to glue the fenders on like 4 times but they were the same color as the hood it probably would have been way easier if i had glued them on first
