futurattraction Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 what do you guys use on the adhesive side to keep it from sticking to things you don't want it to stick to?
High octane Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 I pull the tape through the slot in the hardware and fold it over. I then stick it on a piece of wax paper and brush paint the tape(topside) the color I want my belt. After it dries, I stick the belt and hardware on the seat and put a SMALL dot of epoxy glue underneath the hardware and also on the end of the belt which usually can't be seen. I find this method works pretty good for me without getting too finicky.
futurattraction Posted September 17, 2014 Author Posted September 17, 2014 Got a new question, Nick. What type of paint do you use? And do you use a primer or go straight over the tape?
John Pol Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 I use sharpie over my tape for the belts
Guest Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 I fold the tape over onto itself and cut it to width. It gives it a little more scale thickness and I can position it however I want. To add the hardware, I slip it through, fold it and glue with crazy glue. I paint it with whatever I want or have. These were painted with acrylic flat black. I've also painted them with Dupli Color lacquer to match the interior.
Mooneyzs Posted September 20, 2014 Posted September 20, 2014 Scott... I use some medical bandage tape and I color Mine with a sharpie. I can post some pics of the harneaa I did for my Army Vega Funny Car if you would like. Althouht I dont remember at the moment what I did on the adhesive side... lol
High octane Posted September 20, 2014 Posted September 20, 2014 I use Testors Enamels, (the small jars) and paint right over the tape. I like the idea of using a Sharpie, and I'll have to give it a try.
futurattraction Posted September 20, 2014 Author Posted September 20, 2014 Thanks for all the additional feedback, guys. John - I've tried Sharpie and, though I like the idea of it, it seemed to rub off if handled very much. Maybe that speaks more to my assembly techniques than to the marker itself. LOL I'll have to give it another try. I like your Fairlane, Roger. Feel free to post up pics, Chris... Thanks for letting me know about what paint you use, Nick.
