I was thinking about it this morning on the way in to work (because I apparently had nothing else to think about!). I have 2 I eventually want to build for various reasons/themes, but couldnt place a modern-casted chassis that would work...

Thunderbolt maybe?

nope; the Galaxie/LTD is a full perimeter frame car, those are unit bodies. you're in luck, though; the current '65 Ford hardtop can supply you with the basic frame in fairly good detail. it may need to be stretched, i'm not certain. the basic chassis was the same almost through from '65 to '91 with few changes. on the plus side, that frame has trunk floor detail you might choose to work into your '70. you can replace the '65 rear axle with one from a '68 Mustang to get a better looking 9" that you can slip a metal axle into.

the Revell '70 Torino has a beautiful 429 that will look perfect in there, although i robbed a 390 from a Fairlane to put in mine.

This is the most recent one-

but any of the previous reissues would work just as well. The one exception might be the Rides Magazine issue- I don't remember if that one came with the stock suspension parts or not. I think it did but I'm not 100% sure.

The last one of these I build I kept the kit chassis, but replaced the engine with one from the AMT/Model King '72 Thunderbird.

The '65's about as close to a "modern" full detail kit as anything from that era could be. The chassis and floors are molded together, and the exhaust system is molded to the chassis from the trans crossmember back, but everything else is separate. Like Curt mentioned- it even has trunk floor detail, as the '65 has a hinged trunk lid. The fuel tank is even separate. It's quite a few cuts above the plate that comes with the '70. It could stand a better looking rear axle, also as Curt pointed out, but it's a really nicely detailed kit, especially for the era.
