Jon Cole Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 ’40 Ford w/ a flathead & 2 Stromberg’s… how many lines to/from the fuel tank? And where would the fuel pump go? And for that matter, what does a fuel pump look like? Sorry about the “picky†details. I just want it to be relatively accurate.
Jairus Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 There is only one line running from the fuel tank to the pump. Pump is located at the back of the intake manifold next to the crankcase vent. This is the same on all flathead V8's from 1932 to 1953. The pump is powered by a short push-rod actuated by a lobe at the very end of the camshaft.
flatheadgary Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 one of the strange things about the fuel pumps on those water boiler flatheads is, if you are going up hill and run out of gas, the pump couldn't suck the fuel out of the tank and up to it to feed the carbs. that was back in the days of 6v systems. most people today use an electric pump on hot rods. i run an electric on my race car naturally. it always amazes me jairus how much you know for such a young fella!!
ramonesblues Posted February 4, 2008 Posted February 4, 2008 when I was a kid, it was common to see a flathead powered car backing up a hill.
