Hi guys,

I was wondering what sort of wash (color) are you using to add detail to a black semi-gloss or even flat black, chassis? I've seen colored chassis get a light wash of black or grey, but I've never seen a black chassis get washed with a particular color. Any tips? Thanks!

It is hard to do a wash (darker colour in low spots) on the darkest colour there is,...

but I have had good results using graphite powder to highlight the raised parts,...

I use a Q-Tip to rub the powder onto the chassis,...

Doesn't take much

I've had this tube for about 25 yrs. (just started modelling again 3yrs, ago)

Thanks, Bruce! This is exactly what I was looking for. I always enjoy reading everyone's tips, so keep them coming if you have any. Thanks!

I use rub n buff. It's a paste that you can "metallize" regular plastic. I just use VERY light amount on a soft rag and run across highlights. Also, as mentioned above, highlight some parts with lighter colors then apply darker wash over them. The trick is to get a good variety of finishes ad colors - subtle differences - to avoid the all-one-color flat black look.

Simple one:

Good topic. I was just thinking about this too.

Something I have seen the military modellers do is to paint something in a dark grey (instead of black) and then add black wash.

Eric, those look great! I need to get some of that stuff.
