bill_67 Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 Was wonder if any one has a repair fix for stressed windshields. I have bought three kits now and all had damaged windshields. This is the best one. I'm trying to heat form a new windshield but that not working out so well but i'm going to keep trying. Here i a photo of the stressed glass. Your opinion and suggestion are always welcome.
Ace-Garageguy Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 Here's an excellent method for heat-forming a compound-curved windshield. First you make a buck that fits the opening perfectly, using the existing windshield as a starting point. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/?showtopic=58564 BUT...the windshield on that Aston is only a single curvature, so all you need to do is make a template from the existing glass, and cut it out from clear sheet plastic. Use a quality soda bottle, and it will work perfectly, no heat-forming necessary. You will have to fit it very carefully, and you may have to make several until you achieve perfection.
bill_67 Posted February 3, 2015 Author Posted February 3, 2015 (edited) Thanks for the Bill, I will try it with out heat forming and see how that goes. Just checked the glass and it has bends on either corner and flat in the centre. Edited February 3, 2015 by bill_67
Guest Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 Try dipping your windshield in future floor polish Bill. It won't get rid of the stress cracks. But, it practically makes them invisible. This model has an area roughly the size of a fingerprint with stress fractures in it. Can you spot the area? I have to look at it very closely under a bright light or in sun light to spot the area now. Even then, they only show up at certain angles. If that doesn't work well enough. Find some clear plastic from a package and make a new one. You want something that is very thin and flexible (less than .0010 thick). I take a piece of 1 1/2" masking tape and stick it on the inside of the body, trace around the opening, stick it to my clear plastic and cut outside of my trace marks a couple of mms. Four or five mms at the bottom.
bill_67 Posted February 4, 2015 Author Posted February 4, 2015 Thanks Roger, is was wondering if future or clear would work. By the way that windsheild looks great, I cannot see any signs of stress or damage in that glass.
Guest Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 I used clear on a window once. It ruined it with crazing. Luckily, it was a test window. I can't remember what I used. Future floor polish (Pledge With Future Shine) is definitely safe.
