twopaws Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 First time trying to use Pegasus sleeves and they don't seem to slide over the wheels. Quite a bit of interference. What do you guys do to make the fit better? Thanks ahead of time for any and all answers.
jeffs396 Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 You can make just about ANY kit wheel center work with an aluminum sleeve. Careful sanding of the outside diameter of your centers will get you the fit necessary. Time consuming in some cases (depending on how much you have to reduce the OD to fit), but the result is worth it!
Ace-Garageguy Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 (edited) You've no doubt noticed that not all wheels have exactly the same outside diameter. Depending on exactly what you've got, you'll have to remove material from the outside diameter of the wheel you want to use. I find the neatest results are achieved by chucking the wheel in a drill motor or variable-speed Dremel, and using it as a lathe to turn excess material off the wheel. It's important to keep whatever you use to sand the wheel rim exactly perpendicular to the wheel. A pair of digital-readout calipers makes the work quick and accurate. Intmd8r Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 Just curious-what wheels are you trying to fit in these sleeves? Doesn't change the excellent tips already given, just wondering. I recently bought Pegasus "19 Irok wheels for a build, but they look more like "14 wheels on a 1:24 car. Guess I need to pick up a set of sleeves for the "look" I'm after.
MonoPed Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 Any wheel can be made to fit. I used Tamiya wheels on this, with 23" sleeves/tires out back. One thing that made the wheel easier to fit was to cut the excess width of the inner rim off. I chucked the wheel into a drill motor and ran it against a sanding block til it slipped into the sleeve with a slight bit of drag, then secured it with CA.
