Old school AMT Destroyer double build

Recommended Posts

Ive been posting in the Big truck section, so its time I post some of my other stuff. I picked up two of these destroyer kits a while ago and figured Ide give them a proper build up as if they were a real truck. Im building them as one truck turned into the other truck over time. There is a lot of scratchbuilt stuff and some resin parts.

Some build info:

Destroyer 1 added flanges to flemsey kit frame. Cut off spring mounts and fabbed some more realstic ones.Added Ford rear ends from Louisville kit with steering knuckles added. Fenders enlarged and flares made. Windshield cut to proper height. Bed floor replaced.Stock tires from the kit doubled up.

Destroyer 2 added flanges to frame and built subframe under stock frame as many trucks had.Same mods to leaf springs, used same Ford rear ends. Stacked differential made by turning rears up and mounting a smaller differential on the top of it creating a 90 degree driveline. Resin steering knuckles added to front and back. This truck also has a 2nd engine in the bed with a 2nd trans and transfer case.Tires are monogram 1/24 making them 73" in 1/25 scale. Also doubled up.Large fender flares are made from four rear fenders from a 50 Ford truck kit.Body made into one piece flip top.

Both trucks will be candy apple red with Destroyer kit decals. Thanks for looking

I love this kit and what your doing with it,any chance you would part with a set of the decals that's all I need to build my like the box art kit.

Never mind just noticed you will be using both sets,Im in love with the one with the 50 ford fenders.

any updates?

To be honest, no one seemed interested so I put it to the back. I love building highly detailed, accurate monster trucks, because I loved that stuff back in the 80's. This forum didnt seem to be too monster truck friendly, so I held off. Its about time to finish it though. Thanks for the interest.

No, its not that, its just that with the 18 wheelers section of the forum theres a good sense of community and flowing ideas and what not. Sometimes the inspiration from other builders can really help push a project along, and I have a lot of trouble getting things completed anyway. Just being on the forum has helped my building increase. Its not that I wont work on it if no one seems interested, It just might not get updated. I just built a whole slew of Big Rigs, so its time for a change and finish this up.
