Ford guy
I am wanting to put some big fender flares on a Lindberg '71 Mustang to cover some nice fat tires, but I can't figure out how. Can anyone help me out? Please? Roy the Ford Guy
Ace-Garageguy
Very nice, futurabat. Basically the same as my technique. Cut the wheel opening to the radius you want, liquid-glue in a strip of .010" styrene perpendicular to it.... Then fill the flared areas with bondo and sculpt to shape...... Same idea, just larger, and with additions to define the fender character lines.... The real trick is if you want the flares thin enough to fit down over the tires....with the tires up inside the flares. About your only option then is to make molds of your finished parts and duplicate them in fiberglass.
jeffs396
Here's an excellent tutorial on 'widening' fenders & quarter panels, with full tire clearance. Guest G Holding
Here's an excellent tutorial on 'widening' fenders & quarter panels, with full tire clearance. From Darin Bastedo: http://www.modelcars...ng This way will widen fenders, without any flare. Unless you need really huge tires, this will work better than mini tubs
Ace-Garageguy
Yes, and if you look closely, you'll see the tops of both front and rear fenders on the Corvette model above have also been split and widened using a similar technique, which I posted on another forum 2 years ago. Ford guy
Thanks guys. I appreciate the pictures and articles. Futurabat, I like the flares you put on the Pink Panther, really close to what I had in mind. I was just thinking a little bigger. I think I can use your idea though. Ace-Garageguy, that Corvette looks awesome already! I think I can tackle the project now that you put some ideas in my head!
