Yet another BMF Question

Recommended Posts

I don't know about that but i do know BMF makes an adhesive. It is generally intended for using household foils and such but you should be able to apply it under BMF. I have not done so, however. so you need to experiment.

I've had great success where adhesion of BMF was a problem by carefully "painting" Micro-Scale metal foil adhesive on the detail in question (particularly with interior detailing where I've used flat finish paints!). Allow the metal foil adhesive to dry (it will be nice and tacky) and simply apply and trim away any excess foil, burnish it down and that's it!

I usually do not have issues with adhesion except maybe corners lifting from handling. I foil before waxing the paint as the wax adds slickness and I have always believed that could lead to adhesion issues. If the corners lift I usually burnish it back down and put a small dab of Future applied with a cotton swab to hold it down.

I usually just paint the details that are too small for BMF to stick to with Testors chrome paint. Especially door and trunk locks for example. They aren't chrome plated anyway. You can clear over foil if you want. Just make sure that you do not use Testors clear enamel. It will yellow and totally ruin your foil. I would follow Eric's advise concerning future.

For teeny parts like you describe, I find that the Prismacolor fine-point paint pens in metallic silver are the brightest you can get, though not true chrome. Perfect for dash details, too.
