Hoosierfarmboy
Neat looking build. I liked the pix of the sectioned fenders. Will have to try that sometime. I think I have one of these stashed away. keep up the good work.
Custom Mike
Thanks for the comments guys, I really appreciate it. I've slowed down on this one, due to the fact I'm working like a dog to make up for my 3 day sick-fest. I'm on-call this weekend, and I even had to work today, sucks to be me for sure, but I kind of like having money! I've got three of four fenders done now, one of the rears had to be reshaped to match the bottom of the frame, and the remaining front fender is in pretty bad shape, but I should be able to get it right later today if all goes well. I got my frame polished (Yes, I polished a White frame, now you have all the proof you need that I'm weird!) and attached my aluminum plates over the exhaust cutouts. Since this is my 2nd frame (Time constraints required I scrap the modern suspension, so frame #2 was needed), I had to remake one of the exhaust cutout plates, the hole was just slightly off. But that was accomplished tonight, so tomorrow I should be able to get the suspension attached, and maybe some color on the rear fenders, keep your fingers crossed! Custom Mike
Thanks Phil, I've got 14 days to go, I want to see it done too! OK, we've got some chassis work in this update, I ran my fuel line from the tank to the general area of the engine. A drop of superglue to keep it in the tank, and we're all set! Custom Mike
And a little update on my remaining fenders, the rears are good to go, and covered in White primer, we'll get some Ultra Silver on them tomorrow. The problem-child front fender is in pretty good shape now, I'll let the Primer/Surfacer set for tonight, and attack the remaining problem (At the bottom edge) tomorrow night... OK, now onto the engine, we've got our heads drilled for plug wires, I removed the peg for the kit supplied distributor and drilled the intake to take my Replicas & Miniatures of MD resin distributor. I attached the valve covers and oil filler cap, then started adding plug wires to the distributor. I went with White wrapping wire to go along with the White chassis, I figured it would look good, we'll see! seeker589
I like how this build is shaping up. Keep up the good work! The wedge taper fenders are really unique. I'm looking forward to seeing how they look filled up with tire and wheel.
Custom Hearse
Best of luck with the contest! I think yours will do well. From what I've seen so far, this is one of the coolest 32's out there! Looking forward to seeing more and hearing how you did on the contest!
Custom Mike
Tim, you aren't the only one that wants to see some wheels on this baby, I'm dying to get them under the fenders to see how they look! Marshall, I really appreciate the compliment, this will be only my 2nd '32 Ford, nice to know you think so highly of what I'm trying to pull off! OK, now onto tonight's updates. I was called out by a buddy of mine on another forum about the location of my fuel line in relation to the exhaust cut-out, so I redid my fuel line to avoid the exhaust as much as possible, From there, I got a ton done. I have all 3 remaining fenders in Ultra Silver, so they should be all ready for paint by Wednesday. My grille shell, hood, dash and trunk are all back in White primer, they'll get their Ultra Silver either tomorrow morning or after I get home from work. Now, on with the pics! Custom Mike
Now onto some more engine work. I broke out some P.E. wire looms and got to work making the plug wires look all nice and pretty. Then I added some 30 gauge wire to my headers so I could mount them easier via a pair of holes drilled in the cylinder heads. That all for tonight, more to come tomorrow! Custom Mike
Thanks guys, it's the good words that keep me going on days like today. I got the interior completed, and two of the four tire/rim combos done. We'll start with the two wheel backs painted body color and cleared, then attached to the rims. Then the assembly of the interior, this was the only part of today's work that went smoothly for me...don't ask what went wrong, I'm not going there!! I'll get past all of today's issues, I will make this damned deadline! Edited June 2, 2013 by Custom Mike
Custom Mike
And up next are my fuel lines to the carb. Since this appears to be a Holly Double-Pumper, I ran lines to the front and back of the carb. Then I carved up a piece of sprue, drilled two holes in one end and one hole in the other end. A little mock-up shows it's a good fit!
Custom Mike
It seems like all I'm doing right now is working on this one. I got my exhaust set for the passenger side, but couldn't for the driver's side yet, I lost the other aluminum muffler. And I did get to do a quick mock-up with the fenders on, looks like the rears are perfect the way they are (The tire barely sticks out from under the fender), but the fronts are going to have to be tucked in quite a bit before I'm happy with it. So I'll get to work on that tomorrow night, I've gotten enough done today, I need a break! Oh, and no matter where I run the fuel line, it's gonna be too close to the exhaust for any kind of safe operation, so I'm going to rename this one the "Pinto"! Custom Mike
Thanks Danno, I love the simplicity of the interior of this one, it's really hard to screw it up! HINT: frame rails are hollow. Yeah Rob, but I'm not moving it again, so it'll just have to burn to the ground...or live as a trailer queen! Custom Mike
Thanks Leo, I had planned on a ton of other things for this one, but I screwed up and forgot about the deadline. So the modern front suspension, independent rear suspension, fully detailed trunk, complete brake system, hood hinged like the 1:1, etc, had to be scrapped because of time constraints. I've got another one of these kits though, so I've got at least one more '32 Ford in me! I got my engine completed tonight, I had to redirect my fuel lines forward after test-fitting the engine with the body on the chassis, because my fuel lines were hitting the firewall. But I got it done with just a little cussing, got my resin coil mounted, and drilled out my radiator hose locations so I can use some 30 gauge wire to keep 'em in place. Here's the pics to prove I did more than type!
Custom Mike
And now, one last update for tonight, I got my fuel line on the chassis bent with some help from Pam. She held the fuel line in place with flat pliers so I could get the bends right, thanks baby! Then I mocked up the engine and placed the fuel line where it will eventually go when it's all done, it fits nicely, so tomorrow night can be painting night for all the remaining parts, let's hope I can do it without any more screw-ups! Custom Mike
OK, we have a rolling chassis, with wheels that won't roll. It sits nice and level, which is all I'm ever after, and I'll add the radius rods after the engine and a few other items are in place. I also did a quick mock-up with a front fender to check my tire location, it sits slightly forward of center (Too late to fix it now!) but tucks under the fender beautifully! Custom Mike
And we have Clear on most of the parts. The body and both front fenders are awaiting Clear still, I should have one fender and the body in Clear later today. The passenger side front fender is back in Ultra Silver again, that one is being a royal pain, I had to take it back down to the plastic and do a few more fixes, but it's looking good now. Here's the pics, more later!
