Revell Ferrari California

Hi guys! I'm new here, although I've been reading this forum for quite a while now, and I decided to join you. This is my comeback model kit (I finished my last model in '07) and I decided it's time to go back in the business. I think my model skills are a bit rusty so I needed something fairly easy to start with. After many read reviews I bought this Ferrari kit which is a great one. Otherwise I am kind of a US car enthusiast but here in Slovenia it's almost impossible to find US Revell kits (I'm building up my stash at the moment) and I have to buy them on ebay (a single kit costs me between $30 and $40 with postage) so it's quite pricey ;) OK now to the build...I have enough time and motivation so the progress is quick :) For the interior I used revell enamel paints (beige, antrazit and SM black), the body parts were primed with zero points white primer and wetsanded, I already applyed 2 coats of zero italian red that needs to be wetsanded and I have to apply another coat of red & clear coat. Interior is already finished.

As far as getting US Revell kits you might want to look into trading with other modelers from the board in the "Swap, Trade or Free" section. Each modeler pays to ship their model to the other person. In my case it would cost $15 to send the average weight US Revell kit to you. I imagine shipping to the US would be roughly the same for you. Might be something to consider I know myself am interested in boith US & non US kit manufacturers so if you have stuff we can't get over here it would be a win-win

Thats a good idea...I'll have to look at my stash and see which kits are not very interesting for me :)

About 10 days ago I added decals and clearcoated body with zero 2k clearcoat. I had troubles with this clearcoat again. The air temperature was ideal, the pressure also, I even added more thinner as recommended and used a 0,5mm nozzle and it looked like the clear was too dense! So there is massive orange peel on the body :-? Now I'll have to put a lot of time in wetsanding and polishing he body...I only hope I won't burn through the clear. I started this process on the hood but it will take a lot of time to hopefully fix it!!

yeah, i've started using 2k, and its troublesome. so far, i've found that my first coat of clear is always pretty rough. i sand it down, then add another layer of clear, which is a lot smoother. the only real problem i have right now is that the 2k is so hard, its difficult to sucessfully polish out. keep us posted.

Hi

I recently started using 2K clear and found that the smaller the nozzle the better ,I did a VW Ccamper van with a .4mm and I had to wet sand then did a 41 willys with pearl purple using the .2mm and wow what a difference 2 quick clean coats and it looks like a real pro paint job

I've used Zero's 2pk clear system as well as other automotive 2pks including HOK's & currently BASF's Glasurit. After getting some tips from a good friend I found the best application for them all is very low pressure, around 5-10psi, no more. A 0.5mm nozzle is perfect. Keep the gun nice & close. Do 3 consecutive layers 10mins apart.... Eventually the layers combine & you should get very minimal orange peel. Let it dry/gas out for at least 24hours. Then wet sand ( no less than 4000 grit ) once any orange peel is smoothed out, clear coat again 2-3 layers. This will make the body really shine after wet sanding those final clear coats & then polishing.
