BluePopsicle
Currently working on a '66 Shelby GT350 and plan to put rally stripes on during the build. I've got it primed and sprayed with silver base as of right now. What I'm thinking I should do is shoot the 2nd and final color then clear it. Once dry, tape off and shoot the stripes. Is this the order you more experienced builders would do?
crazyjim
What kind of paint?
bryan_m
I would shoot the base color, then mask for stipes, shoot that color, and then clear it....... cheers bryan
BluePopsicle
I'm shooting nail polish. I would shoot the base color, then mask for stipes, shoot that color, and then clear it....... cheers bryan Wouldn't there be a problem of the mask pulling the base off? bryan_m
as long as you have sanded it correctly that shouldnt be a problem..... i usually use 3M blue stripe tape when i do stuff like that. its low tac, but leaves a nice crisp edge. bryan
cobraman
I do it both ways. ( painting stripes I mean ). Sometimes it depends on the colors. I prefer to normally shoot dark over light colors. As Bryan says the 3M blue tape will give you a nice edge but I will sometimes shoot a clear coat before the second color as it will seal the tape and stop any seepage you may have. I alway remove the tape while the last coat is still a bit tacky. No wrong way as long as it works for you. Good luck and let us see how your car turns out. BluePopsicle
I've actually been trying to post pics all day today, and can't figure it out. I'll have to watch the tutorial again to see if I missed anything.
BluePopsicle
Here are (hopefully) some photos of what I'm working on. Since taking these pics, I've sprayed the blue and applied 2 coats of clear. Pics soon to come.

BluePopsicle
I feel this topic has moved beyond the original post. I'm going to move this to a more appropriate thread.
