Scale I Build

  1. Hello, can anyone advise me on how to fix the pillar. I think the model was crushed. One side of the roof is lower than the other.
  2. Who gets asked to fix something, just because you're known for building models? ? Wife said her laptop sound wasn't working, and couldn't plug in the cord for the speakers used for her job. I tried to plug in my cord, obvious that it wouldn't. Looked in the hole, looked in my laptop's hole, then I could see a tip had come off. Eyeballed the size of the stub, went to the workbench. Used a sprue, drilled a hole in the end. Came back, dabbed some superglue in the sprue hole, stuck it in the hole. At that point, wife said we better find a YouTube video about how to pull that out, found a dude who used a soldering iron and copper wire, said "it should be a variable voltage type" (yea everyone has one of those), "just get a little solder on the end, then carefully" ..... I'm sitting, giving her a funny look .... "oh yea be sure it's not under warrantee and turned off" .... I have one of those grins, she's looking worried ....... "and if it is, just have them do it" ........ she's looking at me, worried about the glue ......... "and if it doesn't work the first time, just add more solder on the end" ........ I start giving her $#i* and laughing ......... "but here is one that worked!" Figured that was enough time for the glue to have set. I rise from the Lazyboy, stroll over to her laptop, carefully grab the sprue with both hands, gently pull out (I couldn't cross my fingers, so had an exaggerated grimace ?), and what do you know! ? You have a story?
  3. I have a 1960 dealer promo Thunderbird that has warped over the last 57 years. I was wondering if anyone has straightened such a thing out? I am reluctant to use heat, but it is just ugly enough that it would be no loss to society if it got screwed up even worse. I thought perhaps making some sort of body-buck and pouring boiling water from a kettle and using some wooden cuticle removers to quickly push the affected areas back into place. Maybe a heat gun? Would that be concentrated enough? Ideas?
  4. Just before i start this, i, like my cousin am a rookie at modeling, i have only built a few but i couldnt pass up the opportunity to try to get this model looking reasonable, i love chevy gassers and so will try to fix this with what limited knowledge i have. So this weekend my little cousin gave me this model of his, it was fairly complete but its the first model he ever made and its in such a state. Below are all the parts i got with it, he tried to make some rusty 2 lane black top style chevy, but it really hasnt turned out well. (the pictures arent great, the rust is darker than that and doesnt look too bad, for some reason the camera has made the pictures a lot lighter than they should be.) Im not really sure where to start on the car tbh, there was some big holes on the engine which i managed to fill with some scraps of plastic i had and im in the process of getting the paint off. I think i will have to re-make the rear leaf springs as they have split in the middle and are covered in glue and one of the wheels has snapped of the rear axle so i dunno what to do about that. i also dont know what to do about the firewall that he, for some reason, cut out and the terribly cut out door. There is also a lot of glue on the front and rear window and im not sure how to get it off. Thanks for reading, updates to come.
  5. Does anyone know how to fix a crack/split on a body? I have a 1/16 scale 55 Chevy with a crack at the bottom of the front pillar. Any suggestions?
  6. I gotta AMT 68 gt500 and the body has been cut below the driver door from the wheel well to the middle of the door. I haven't the slightest clue how to fix it and do it right. I'd much rather trade the whole kit to a pro. 23.bmp
