69NovaYenko Posted November 26, 2015 Posted November 26, 2015 (edited) Was casually reading the feature article on the on-line performance magazine Chevy Hardcore.com entitled "Nickey: Then As Now, The Place For The Ultimate In Chevy Performance".What caught my eyes was the mention of an individual who purchased a 2002 MOTIF ZL-1 Camaro and decided made it look like a Nickey Camaro of days gone by.In addition to the Nickey script and a bunch of the styling cues that Nickey used back in the day he painted the 2002 MOTIF ZL-1 Chevy big block YELLOW.The reference to a yellow engine block is made in the fourth paragraph from the top...see attached link:http://www.chevyhardcore.com/features/nickey-then-as-now-the-place-for-the-ultimate-in-chevy-performance/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=nickey-then-as-now-the-place-for-the-ultimate-in-chevy-performance "Well I was surprised to read that the Nickey performance blocks were not painted traditional Chevy engine red. Can anyone shed some light on this. Were Nickey performance big blocks truly "YELLOW". Does anyone out there have pictures. Inquiring minds what to know. www.chevyhardcore.com:.webloc Edited November 27, 2015 by 69NovaYenko
426-Hemi Posted November 26, 2015 Posted November 26, 2015 (edited) I myself, would venture a guess as to say, (with some knowledge on GM) I bet the Nickey Performance/dealership were shipped BARE blocks, built to go in whatever, and painted as they seen fit. I say this as Mr. Norm did this very same thing on the Dodge Darts and other specialty cars that he purposely built to sell, The Dart when he was done was known as the GTS, (Even tho the factory made some) but not to the same standard as Dr. Norm did.)So then I bet that Nickey built them purposely to sell, and they had done it in such a way that they liked...... There were a lot of dealerships that used to modify the old car "in-house" to make them sell if they had a low sales rate.So its not real surprising, I've seen other ones! (I would bet that the Chevy Big Blocks don't "always" get the yellow paint!) BUT it is eye catching! Edited November 27, 2015 by 426-Hemi Corrected errors in my typing.
High octane Posted November 27, 2015 Posted November 27, 2015 John, it's Mr. Norm and not doctor. Back-in-the-day I was lucky enough to live 'bout 2 miles from Mr. Norm's Grand Spaulding Dodge and also 'bout 2 miles from Nickey Chevrolet as well.
426-Hemi Posted November 27, 2015 Posted November 27, 2015 -yeah I just seen that, My mistake too! But the meaning is there..... I'd venture to say that Spaulding Dodge and Nickeys were doing the same thing, to 2 different auto brands. WHY on earth I said Dr. instead my Mr. (the letters aren't even close on the keyboard for a typo) is beyond me.......Mr. Norm however done some NICE "upgrades" to almost any Dodge more known for the Dart but, there were others I've read ad a few I have even seen in person, that are pretty impressive! The same idea is what it looks to be with Nickeys Performance as it looks to be a dealership or was at one point so...... Kinda like Arruzza Performance back in the day..... They were a Mopar engine certified dealership at one time (not any more) but back in the day, ole John Arruzza was friends with Dick Landy, never mind Willem Weertman!!!!! (those 2 names should mean something anyone knowing anything about Chrysler) SO, same goes for Mr. Norm!
69NovaYenko Posted November 27, 2015 Author Posted November 27, 2015 Oppss...I found an engine picture at the VERY bottom of linked article....my bad.
