Hammerdown
The year was 1971 and I [the long haired kid] was helping my brother-in-law, Alan Hills and partner Greg Baxter, run their C gas dragster. A 160' Woody Gilmore chassis with a pretty much stock 283 and a Lenco two speed. Photo was taken after an all night thrash to get to bison Dragways that morning were the car ran 10's at 145 mph. The next year we stepped up with a Bob Forzley 170" chassis powered by a bored out 283 with aluminum heads, race cam, Hilborn fuel injection and a semi automatic three speed transmission. We never got this car sorted out and it ran in the 10's at 150 mph. [should have been the low 9's at 170]. These were the Golden Days of drag racing and I was hooked for life. Ace-Garageguy
Really cool pix. Nothing beats being there. Winning is nice, but just being able to show up and race is heaven.
