dwc43 Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 Here's one I have had on the bench for a long time. Hope to finish it soon. It's a '40 Ford asphalt car. In some of hte pics you can see where I turned loose the pin vise to add holes for lightening up the chassis and straight axle. It's a got a '50's version 312 Thunderbird engine in it and will sport three deuces. And in one shot you can see the 3 break drums it will run. Don't need one on the RF since that will help aid it in a left turn. Used mostly on dirt track cars and older cars with drum brakes and bad handling.

dwc43 Posted March 26, 2009 Author Posted March 26, 2009 I'm going to keep this one kind of old school. I'm going to put a single roll over bar in in it. Pretty much the old upside down V and a bar that goes over the seat to hold it up. Leaving the bench seat in it too. Thinking about trying to fab up some belts to tie around the door post to keep the doors closed. Need a dummy with a leather foot ball helmet for the driver if I can find one. That would really set the tone for the project. This car came out of the Lindberg kit with the Dodge L-700 tractor and flat bed. Has to be the crappiest kit I ever got my hands on. Dash detail for the car is just not there. That car originally had a flat head in it before I put the 312 in it. As for that tractor in that kit, it stinks too. Flash everywhere and nothing lines up right. The trailer turned out pretty nice but I stopped mid way on the tractor. Even the front axle wont sit under it straight. Oh well, I digress.
dwc43 Posted March 26, 2009 Author Posted March 26, 2009 (edited) Hey, that aint no laughin matter right there. That 700 is a steaming pile of horse ######, or at least the one that I have. As for pink, that's what paint is for. Believe it or not, that coupe there it's painted old Ford engine blue. It's engine paint. So the car matches the engine under the hood .... lol. Slim Louis Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 (edited) The forty ford I posted recently with no replies is the same Lindberg body! Flash City!! Scared to build the truck! Built another one earlier, you know that pink one! At least they scale out OK and the proportions are decent. Edited March 26, 2009 by Slim Louis

Slim Louis Posted March 27, 2009 Posted March 27, 2009 It's over in the NASCAR section, I'm still not sure where to post my short track cars, here, where people will see them! Thanks for looking!
dwc43 Posted March 27, 2009 Author Posted March 27, 2009 That 40 is o.k. but I like the 37 I found at the top of the page a lot more. Of course I like Blue and Red, just has the wrong number and make .... lol Both a great builds. Did you use the Thunderbolt bulge to make the hood on the 37? Looks like it to me. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=18492 http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=18436
dwc43 Posted April 19, 2009 Author Posted April 19, 2009 (edited) Here's a small update on this one. I'm getting close to finishing it up. I have the engines dist and wires installed and it's mounted in the frame rails now. Has it's headers and tail pipes installed too. Got the roll bar and harness installed. Need to add a tach and gauges and a screen for the window and that should do that. I have some screen, but it's too fine. Need some with larger holes in it. Also made the front and rear bumpers from steel tubing. Front one is full of holes to lighten it a bit. Back one is solid. Using white roll bars, bumpers and numbers to contrast the blue. Should turn out nice. Got a question and looking for a couple suggestions. First off, how does the brake lines run on the front and rear straight axles with transverse leaf springs? Battery, in the back seat area, or in the trunk where you can see it past the tires? Fill in the stock fuel tank and add a filler hose with a cap on top of the deck lid,no deck lid cap, or a moon tank in the trunk area instead? Edited April 19, 2009 by dwc43
dwc43 Posted April 21, 2009 Author Posted April 21, 2009 Here's some up date pics. Still not finished yet, but there was progress made. [/url http://
dwc43 Posted June 28, 2009 Author Posted June 28, 2009 (edited) I finished this up a couple months ago, but my pc went down. I'll finsh this up and post the rest under glass. Here's the resin boat tank and battery box I added to the rear. I also plumbed the tanks and wired the battery, just not in this pic. I took this pic at the HB contest. Can't see it here, but the dist is wired not only to the plugs, but a ground wire from the coil to the dist. for the points and a wire from the coil back to the firewall for power from the switch and the starter is wired as well. dwc43 Posted June 28, 2009 Author Posted June 28, 2009 It's the '50's, no such thing as safety. Most of those cars did not have roll bars and some was just 2x4's. Race helmets were hard leather football helmets too. Yeah, the seat belts are screen printed onto fabric. I thought I'd try them on something. Look back up there, I added one more pic.
