B_rad88 Posted October 7, 2009 Author Posted October 7, 2009 ok, i have a question? i have heard of the horror stories about old plastic tyre melting plastic! how can i tell if they are bad?
Tony T Posted October 7, 2009 Posted October 7, 2009 Wow, I built one of those when it was new! Still have it on the shelf. I love the body style. I'm not really sure about what you meant about the tires. Do you mean as in the tires left in an old kit? I would think that they would leave an 'indentation' in the plastic if a tire was against the plastic. The tires would be a bit tacky or sticky, I think, too. It would be pretty obvious, I would guess.
Lyn Posted October 7, 2009 Posted October 7, 2009 hey that model looks Fam to me LOL.. bout time you dug into it you've only had it 4 months What does sinkholes mean? did I sent it to you broken?

I honestly don't remember any specifically. The rear decklid doesn't stay in place well, so could use a more positive hinge, or I broke the end pins that did hold it. I don't recall, actually! I did mine in red Testor's bottle paint with a Testor's brush back then! I'll see if I can't dust it off for a picture or two for you, if you are interested.

Tony T Posted October 8, 2009 Posted October 8, 2009 (edited) Here are some pictures of mine. One thing to note is the wheels wobble a bit, so either you'll have to glue them so they don't roll, or find a way to have them fit tighter to still roll, and be square to the ground. Oh, and mine doesn't have any rear view mirrors, and I see on the box that none are pictured. I don't remember why I painted the headlight lenses silver... A few more pics in the album here: http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v383/lun...20Carrera%20RS/ It is still one of my favourite models! Edited October 8, 2009 by Tony T
B_rad88 Posted October 8, 2009 Author Posted October 8, 2009 wow! that looks sweet! you did a really good job! question, how did you do the black trim around the lights, bumpers, and windows? everytime i try it on a scarp model, i mess it up, big time! and thank you for pointing that out about the mirror, of the pics i have, i have only seen one side mirror and thats it! but lucky me, there is some extra parts thats in the kit, so i will be modding one of them to make the mirror. and ok, thank you for telling me about the wheels. i will most likely glue them on. thank you for the tips! i greatly appreciate it!
Guest arni Posted October 8, 2009 Posted October 8, 2009 One way of masking window trims ect is to lighty apply Tamiya masking tape on the part/s and to press it into the joint line using a fine blunt tool-I find the end of a pair of tweezers works well. Then using a NEW! #11 blade, carefuly cut along the joint line and remove the tape from the area to be painted. The important bit being to ensure you are happy with the cut you make in the tape...If you are not satisfied remove the tape and start again-well worth the effort.

crispy Posted October 8, 2009 Posted October 8, 2009 Brandon, Check this out. It's from a different forum, but I keep it in my tutorial bookmarks. Might help you out with your Porsche. Chris Tamiya mask of window trim
Tony T Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 The black trim on this model was done with a paint brush (Testor's), and flat black Testor's paint. That's all I used back then! I really took my time, and did it before assembly, so before interior and bumpers. No problems, I'm glad to help when I can! Good luck, will be watching your progress!!
