Update, February 2025

Issue #226 has been printed and mailed the first week of March, 2025. It is taking the USPS a bit longer than normal for the magazine to arrive in everyone’s mailbox. We hope you can be patient a little bit longer while the magazines slowly make their way to your mailbox.

HERE IS A SNEAK PEAK OF ISSUE #226:

Update On Model Cars Magazine and Gregg

I know, late again, and it seems to be getting worse. Issue #225 was printed and mailed a while ago (August/September 2024), and everyone has been asking where is the next issue, and what is happening with the magazine. I’m going to be brutally honest here, and I hope you all can understand what’s going on.

For those that do know me, I’ve been plagued by a history of failed back surgeries (eight or ten so far, depending on which ones you count, starting back in 1984), and we had hoped that by the time of the holidays for 2024, all of this would be behind us. I say us, because this is not just me, my wife Kelly is as much involved with this as I am. Unfortunately, that’s not the case. I’ve been basically put on hold by the insurance company/medical side of all this, and we can’t get approval for the next back surgeries. We are trying to get a second opinion approved at a mainland hospital/clinic, but that has not happened yet.

We had hoped to kill two birds with one stone, going to the last NNL West in January of 2025, and doing the second opinion at either UCSF, or Stanford, but that’s not going to happen now. So now, I’ll not only miss the last NNL West, but any updates on the surgery side of things are in limbo also.

My days are based on planning out what will cause me the least amount of pain, what can I do that day, and what will make it worse. Even simple things like sitting up for more than ten minutes is now really hard to handle, I used to be able to sit for 15-20 minutes before, but now I’m lucky if I can do ten minutes. Driving is also getting to be hard to do, my wife really doesn’t want me driving anymore, and I completely see and understand and see her point.

So, what’s going to happen to me, the magazine, and the future? Right now, it’s pray for the best, hope for everything to finally line up and it all work out, insurance, doctors, etc., and get me back on my feet. I know it’s disappointing for a lot of you to be kept in the dark, and I do apologize for this, I didn’t want to lay out my sad story at this time of year, but I have to at least try and explain what’s going on, and what’s not going on.

I’m not going to give up, I’m a fighter, not a quitter, and with all of your patience, support, thoughts and prayers, I know I’ll come out of this on my feet, and off my back (I’m most comfortable on my side in bed).

We are getting a solid plan in place for 2025, making a few changes, and trying to get as much done now as we can, just in case something does happen, we will be a bit more prepared.

I hope this explains everything, without sounding like it’s just me making excuses, there’s nothing I would love more than to get the magazine back up to speed, on schedule, and getting out to shows again. I miss that part, meeting everyone at the shows, all the love and support that you all give me and the magazine, it really makes this all worth it. With 25 years behind the magazine, it’s amazing that the love for the magazine from each and every one of you has just blown me away. I can’t explain the feeling of pride I have when I see you all with either hats, t-shirts, logos, stickers, any type of MCM swag that you have on your workbench or area, and it’s just an incredible feeling. The support you guys (and gals) have for the magazine (and what we stand for), really is amazing. I keep every single hand written letter, note, card, and photo that has been sent to me. We have truly built an Ohana (family) over the past two and a half decades of model builders that I wouldn’t trade for anything in the world!

Thanks again for all of your support, and patience.

Kelly and I wish you and your family had a Merry Christmas (Mele Kalikimaka), and we hope you all have a safe and Happy New Year (Hau’oli Makahiki Hou!

And last, they say a picture is worth a thousand words:
