Haubenschild
I am currently building 2 cars that have black window trim. My question is...... When should I paint the trim? , before the basecoat... or after the basecoat? My worries are that I could screw up my paint job with black overspray. Thanks
von Zipper
I've only done it once but it worked out pretty good for me. I got ahold of a Revell 2006 Chevy Impala police car-snap kit. When it was still bare white plastic I colored all the trim with a chisel tip black Sharpie then masked it off with BMF-primed , base coat and clear coat the body, then re-cut all the seams where the BMF was so not to pull the paint off-the black trim was nice and clean. Foxer
I've done it with black BMF. If didn't stick as well as the chrome but has been on that one for many years without loosening.
Erik Smith
I haven't had to do it much, but I painted base and clear (laqcuer) and then masked and used Tamiya bottle paint with my airbrush. That way, I could easily wipe off any overspray or mistakes without damaging the laqcuer paint.
Austin T
Just use a black sharpie.
jaymcminn
I always paint, clear, and polish the body before masking the black trim with BMF. I then mask the entire rest of the car with blue masking tape before spraying acrylic flat black through the airbrush. This yields the best results I've tried. Since you're applying your paint over your finish coat, you can clean up any overspray using your polish of choice.
