shucky Posted December 29, 2012 Posted December 29, 2012 (edited) As a quick side project as I work on finishing my Z06 I thought this would be fun. New Revell 1/32 scale 1970 Mustang made into a Wild Gasser project using 1/24 parts. Member T_Sean has something similar going and I was surprised to see we both had the same idea at the same time! His looks to have an engine whereas I'll just be adding parts to complete the exaggerated Gasser look. Started with this - Broke out some old slicks and vintage slotted mags which I will be casting both in resin for future similar projects. And have billet slot car wheels for fronts. I'll be either adding a supercharger with 4 pot Hilborn injection or oversized Hillborn injection with tall stacks. Will do a quick straight axle up front. More to come! Here are some mock up's after making room for the monster slicks - Edited February 24, 2013 by shucky
t_sean91 Posted December 30, 2012 Posted December 30, 2012 pretty sweet man. im hoping mine turns out good
shucky Posted December 31, 2012 Author Posted December 31, 2012 Thanks fellas. I found a nice supercharger in my stash that I may wind up going with but still not sure since I'm waiting for my tall injector stacks in the mail. Either way going to put the slicks, wheels, and blower in rubber this week so I have some extras. Think there will be more of these from me lol.
shucky Posted February 24, 2013 Author Posted February 24, 2013 Need to touch up a couple things and may add a decal or two but this one is finished. Here were the progress shots of the build. Really enjoyed this one and will be doing more of these! My resin blower cast in gun metal and making the Hilborn 4 pot from styrene. Punching out the throttle butterfly's from brass sheet. Added fuel inlets, some photo etched bits, and messing around with possible fuel line.
shucky Posted February 24, 2013 Author Posted February 24, 2013 Hilborn in primer. Throttle linkage mock up. Here I jumped ahead and didn't take many pics in between lol. Made a fuel distribution block with brass inlets detailed with ProTech bolt heads. Linkage is made with some PE bits and held together using items from Scale Hardware and RB Motion. Although individual throttle plates did open and close I fixed them in position for fear of breakage.
shucky Posted February 24, 2013 Author Posted February 24, 2013 Construction of straight axle, springs, perches, etc. all from styrene bits. Poseable steering.
shucky Posted February 24, 2013 Author Posted February 24, 2013 (edited) Quick roll bar and made seat backs from styrene as kit seats were unfinished and open. Here I needed a quick shifter gate. Used two slices of aluminum tube with a small section pressed flat on each. Then punched some aluminum discs and cut them in half so they were the same shape as the aluminum tube slices. shucky Posted February 24, 2013 Author Posted February 24, 2013 Gauge faces printed and punched out. Simple interior done. Added seat belts and corrugated aluminum for the center console detailing.
shucky Posted February 24, 2013 Author Posted February 24, 2013 Installed interior, mounted blower, and scratch built cogged pulley which was cast in resin and mates up with real cogged belt. Also added clear red acetate for headlight covers. More progress pics coming. Need to eat though, I'm super hungry LOL.
shucky Posted February 24, 2013 Author Posted February 24, 2013 (edited) Axle and steering. Mostly styrene held together with Scale Hardware .5mm threaded hex bolts/nuts and a couple PE links. Assembly was very tricky as the parts were super delicate. Working with the .5mm hex bolts/nuts was tedious. Had to use 2 sets of tweezers to thread them together. Topped off the bolts with a tiny drop of epoxy to keep them from backing out. Edited February 24, 2013 by shucky
Rob McKee Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 Wow Mike, that is some fine scratch building you have done. With those slicks on the back I am sure that stange will have no problem hooking up. lol I love it.
