john, the 12/68 hot rod magazine has a color article with one interior shot. sorry but i dont have a scanner.it shows a bright aluminum floor with a long transmission tunnel buldge.the door is red with a black pleated insert[5 upper/5 lower rectangular panels]. the seats are black vinyl? with high sides and narrow vertical pleats.by the way, the rear end is supported with coil springs/air bags in front and gabriel shocks in the rear all attached to box channel lift bars.hope this helps.
i only wish that they would have included a hardtop for the 289 cobra body style[the revell king cobra top does not fit]so i could replicate the drag cobras that were raced in the 60s,which were required by rule to have a hardtop.as far as diecasts are concerned few 289 body styles were ever made and the only one with a hardtop was a 1/43 marsh diecast.
i did not get the slicks from a kit.probably i got them loose at a model car show/contest.they were used and i think they were 1/24 because of their size.
phil, using your numbers[1/25, 9x15x32] i checked my pie- crust slicks and found only one pair that matched the 32" height [1.28" actual].unfortunately the width was 7.25" [.29" actual] and 16.75" diameter [.67" actual].sorry, good luck.
i dont see the complete wheelie bar assembly in your parts picture, it was located on the chrome tree in the original kit but not in the reissues though you can find it in the 33 willys panel truck kit.just to let you know when george raced the chopped top version of this car the top was one piece with no removable roof panel/tarp.
i would just like to add that the original malco gasser kit [and every other reissue] had a accurate rear 1967 mustang body while the flip front ends were totally inaccurate 1965-6 mustang front ends.to remedy this situation you would have to graft the hood buldge [or entire hood] to a 1967 front end you removed from another mustang.i removed mine from a 1967 mustang chopped top funny car that is no longer made.the original malco gasser mustang[real car] did not have a front spoiler which was added later and still later the car had a front end with no headlights and no spoiler.ohio george raced this car from 1967 to 1971[or later].
i would like to point out that the original malco gasser mustang kit had a decent looking 1967 rear body section while the flip front was a totally inaccurate 1966 mustang front end. i cut the front end from a 1967 chopped top mustang f/c and modified the hood.the hood buldge was the toughfest part of the conversion.i also opened up the rear wheel openings and added flairing around the lip.the 1969 mr. gasket mustang moulded in clear plastic was not accurate to me.i modified the rear wheel openings like above and cut the front end off the body to make a flip front end.i did a lot of work to the front grille area and scratch built a front spoiler.the only problem i had with the 1933 malco willys was that the front window/frame/opening was too large.one other item i would like to mention is the decals for the mr. gasket mustang should be silver not gold as they were in the original kit.
