  1. Just to be different, this was my attempt all along. I believe it worked out pretty darn good for the first one. Here's hoping it can only get better from here on out?! First attempt at bare metal foil,stripes,fades,flares,etc...etc... What do you think now? Good, bad, ugly? I can take the feedback and use it on the next project. Thank You for stopping by and having a look! Regards to All, Brian
  2. Hi George, AHHA! Now, I do get it! I do confuse very easy sometimes when I dabble in something I have no clue about This is a very first time trying something like this, so I really don't know what I'm doing, just from the seat of my pants, and doing something I thought was different and unique. I do take your advice with great heed and appreciate you being honest. Thank You Very Much. I sent an e-mail off to Jairus to get his honest opinion, NOW I'm skeered to think of what he has to say!
  3. Hi Peter, The detail for body lines and doors and stuff is not there because I DID indeed sand them off the body.(see above pictures) The paint is actually very thin as I used the Parma faskolor for the yellow in an airbrush. The over-all look will still feature a purple strip and some other details. Yes,I would have to agree it does appear to have that new one-piece funny car body look going on Thanks for the reply...
  4. you fellows area tuff crowd to please... does anyone care IF I continue with the posts?
  5. Got a little more accomplished, starting to look like some paint will be going on shortly.
  6. the first ruff draft of the fender flared 57' Chevy, Wadda u think?
  7. Hello All, Thanks so much for the tips, This is what I needed to drudge onward in this project. Here's what I've completed thus far. Poor shape donor car. All body trim lines removed along with reattached lower roof. Body ready for some good bonding filler paint made for plastic. Two light coats applied, covered real well... The elusive, never to be done on this body style fender flares... This is only a sneek peak of what is yet to become something really unique and different!
  8. bump.... sheesh!...somebody has made fender flares in the past..no? Just give me a thread that shows how someone has made them, I'll adapt! PLEASE...
  9. Hi Raul, Thanks for the reply, and YES what you have described as the teardrop shape is what had me puzzled? OK, maybe this is what I needed to ask then... How would you make them from scratch?
  10. Hello All, Would someone be as so kind to point me in the proper direction to adding some custom wheel well flares to a model. This is going to be a slot car drag body, Got some of the modifications already done, thought this would be kinda neat. I've looked thru the tech tips area and was unable to source any info. Thank You! Have a Nice Day!
  11. Hey Randy, just so happens i was reading the board the other day looking for some ideas on the paint stands.I kinda copied your idea, and it works great!.I have only painted one car with it, so it's still early to fully tell. The body didn't like to sit very well just on the wire tips of the coat hanger,so I placed some foam earplugs on the ends. Naturally this ended up costing me nothing but some time to put it together. Thanks for the great idea! Here is my first bare metal foil attempt also: I haven't quit figured out how to wrap it around the front bumpers. My wife is the only one I have to ask during building, she doesn't like the red windows. leave'm or git rid of them? Thanks again for the idea,Randy!
  12. I would tend to believe the hammer would be used for a tinnerman in the hvac trade. :| Nice tip for those going for the full custom look. Thanks for sharing. 8)
  13. Hi everyone, I dug up these old photos and scanned from nearly a forty year old Car Model magazine. From seeing how some of you have done this, not much has really changed. Hope this helps on that next project. Larger views of the same photos in order. http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e253/Slo...er/e4e45522.jpg http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e253/Slo...er/24513709.jpg http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e253/Slo...er/020e2041.jpg http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e253/Slo...er/11bbb25d.jpg http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e253/Slo...er/b68eecb8.jpg http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e253/Slo...er/02a515f5.jpg http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e253/Slo...er/3e114350.jpg http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e253/Slo...er/feb54f69.jpg http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e253/Slo...er/8ed31016.jpg
  14. Hi Tom, thanks for pointing this out you are correct it's in the MCM,I should have looked there also.... Brian McPherson
  15. Hello, I can't find the thread were someone had given details on using the wood from inside cigar boxes in creating realistic wood grain patterns from cutting out the stickers :?: Please help, thanks in advance, Brian McPherson
  16. Roy, I asked the same question the other day to a fellow.his response, Pour brake cleaner in a bag, place model inside, shake it up.then use a small q-tip and toothpick to get down in the nooks and cranny's.then wash real good with westley's bleach white for tires. I have not used or tried this method, but he swears by it. Anyone else ever hear of this?
  17. Brian, The way I started and learned was going to the local slot car track. The fellow draggers are always more then willing to help you out with set-ups and the like. That's what drawed me to the drag racing, friendly, informative and fun group of guys.I'm not sure about any info on the web, other then suppliers wanting to sell you parts. From my own experience, small skinny tires need lotsa glue to hook-up,while larger fatter tires will need no glue at start line.Depends on what gears you may run in car if it launches well from start line, tops out midway down the track then flattens out at the end.The best controller is a 1-ohm (no brakes here) it just needs to act as an on-off switch. With full power quickly as possible. At the end of track in shut-down area is stop glue, after you run the car in glue to stop, take a piece of cardboard and roll the tires onto this to clean all the glue off.I have seen some gluys use lighter fluid to clean any residule glue from braids, and then wipe with a wire brush to help clean glue from braids. there are different types of glue for drag racing, ranging from very light to very heavy.Again depending on tire size and motor torque.Little bit of experminting to see which does the best job. Be sure and write down the Et's from every pass, this way you;ll know wether the car is getting better or worse, more or less glue. Well i hope this helps you out some in understanding what is going on at the drag stripes in your local Slot track. Bye the way, those are some very nice paint jobs! I would hold the customer ransome for some info b-4 I would give it him.
  18. Hello, Here is another drag car, this one is for Camaroman,he wanted to see it.It's got a Parma holeshot chassis, sonic gers, proslot adj.timing endbell,JDS matching tires and custom automotive paint job with bare metal foil trim. I purchased the model kit from e-bay,and all the parts from local slot track.then paid someone else to build it for me. This is a great bracket car running in the low 12's on the 1/4. with no glue. I'm no painter,(you guys would laff at my work)this is why I hire only the best such as our administrator Jairus.
  19. Hello, 8) This is my latest drag car build. It features a Parma Edge chassis,super16d motor,9/35 gears, matching Pro-track tires. And one custom paint job, with bare metal foil, mural and ghost flames. As i did not paint the body,I did build rest of the car. What a pain for the front fender glue-ons and hood. The pictures do not do this car justice, but my photo skills are improving.I left out the interior on purpose for the photo's. I re-submitted the photo's from earlier post these are better.
  20. Hello, I'm a new member to this forum, have read it since JHW told me about it. So thought I would place my opening Hello in with another Clevelander!
