32 Ford 7-Window Coupe RATROD --- UPDATE 10/08 --- New Photoshop mockup

Glued the three main body pieces together using little styrene tabs; have enough bits left over to make another HALF-WINDOW coupe. -
32 Ford 7-Window Coupe RATROD --- UPDATE 10/08 --- New Photoshop mockup
Stef replied to Stef's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Thank you, mod3l Lover. If this beast turns out, let's build a real one in your garage, heh. Bodies are hacked up and ready for grafting. Body 2 needs to be widened, and once the halves are mated to Body 1's front section, I'll hack some more and graft on a wider "hunchback" trunk. Also did more engine buildup. Been looking through the parts box, hoping to come up with a truly badass induction system. -
I'm so loving this build. This is the thread that inspired me to get back into modelling after a 12-year hiatus. Entranced to see where this ends up.

32 Ford 7-Window Coupe RATROD --- UPDATE 10/08 --- New Photoshop mockup

Wow, thanks so much everyone for your enthusiasm and support. Feedback/criticism is greatly welcomed. I sure could use it! I've built the engines up a bit, smoothed out the tranny seams, and started hacking up the two bodies. This rough Photoshop approximates the main cuts to get the overall shape. NEXT UP: Widening the body, planning out the hood length, nailing engine position, and creating an all-new frame. -
Hello everyone Inspired by all of your awesome builds, and the latest Mad Max film, I'm gonna bash TWO 32 Ford 5-Window Coupes together and see what I come up with. Planning to use the deep steelies from the AMT Dodge Monaco all around, along with fat MPC-issue Blue Streak Dragway Specials up front, and mega fat Firestones (Revell J-2000/Beretta Pro Street kits) at the rear. Started off by joining the two Hemi beasts together.

Hello George Oh yes, this would be a sick awesome project, though I leaned the hard way that doing it all on one's own is impossible. I would like to organize the modelling community in helping me source hires scans of the 3500+ domestic model car boxes I've catalogued. In looking through everyone's kits in the "show your stash" thread here, I see there are hundreds of classics just waiting to be digitized. In the meantime, you can see the images I've grabbed off Google here: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=74534

Wow, John, your Atlantic is sick amazing! Dude, you're like a living legend! I'd love to see more of it! I loved working with Lindberg's Atlantic too, though I found the plastic for it (and their Crown Vic) just a wee bit more rubbery and elastic to work with than typical styrene. Did you find the same? Here's what I did with my Atlantic: used the nose and scratchbuilt everything else to make a funky woody!

Hello everyone Wow, this is awesome to see so many people interested in this! I was about to trash my scrapbook, but then I was like: "Nah, I really need to share this with the modelling community!" It's a shame I never thought to properly credit everyone's fine work back then, and I've forgotten the names of a lot of the amazing builders. There's tons of great stuff from Jairus, Juha, and many, many more. I've sent download links to everyone who's responded so far; please do let me know if the links aren't working. I'll find a way to get your PDFs to you. Thanks!

Before the internet, gathering solid reference material on cars was tough. So, all through the 90s, I kept a scrapbook of everything cool and interesting I ever found in model car magazines. Just discovered it hidden in a box, so I scanned it, and I have a hires PDF (83 MB, via Dropbox link) for anyone who would like to have a copy. Just send a message or comment in this thread. There's tons of awesome ideas, cool models, great reference and good times. Enjoy.

Hello Greg, how does a thread get pinned? In the meantime, I just uploaded these 33 kits to the galleries: -

Thanks, peekay; I think I'm gonna put up a MISC category, to throw in the Henry J, Duesenberg, Cord, Hudson and Packard kits I have. I feel like I should also add the Austins, since Revell had at least 7 gasser kits. -

Hey W-409, thanks for the pics! This reminds me, I have three Henry J kits to upload. What company should I list them under? Weren't they bought out by Ford or something? Certainly, Henry J wouldn't merit having it's own gallery, would it? As for dragsters, I wasn't really interested in including them, cuz I find they're so far removed from real, actual cars, and I feel pretty much the same about NASCAR, Indy and sprint racers, dune buggies, diggers, monster trucks, one-off show cars, salt flats record breakers, Euro, Japanese and that sort of thing. No disrespect to anyone, I just had to set limits to the scope of this project. However, I have included many funny cars, gassers, altereds, early modifieds and NASCARs, driven in part by my own romantic nostalgia for these kits! Will post more updates ASAP. Thanks, guys! Could NOT have done this without you! Keep 'em comin'! -

Hey W-409, oh yes, please DO upload all your Airfix MPC reissues. Earlier, I'd come across MPC's "SaberVette" rebadged as an Airfix kit, and I wrongly assumed it was a Photoshop cuz I knew it was originally an MPC. Upload as many Airfix kits as you have, and I'll add them in. Also, seeing this awesome Burnout Bird again just made me remember that I totally forgot about MPC's Corvette versions of this kit! I loved the "Firefighter" and "NitroVette", which used the same chassis. I just found images, and I'll upload everything ASAP. Thanks, dude! We now have nearly 3600 kits! Keep 'em comin! -

Thanks, mrknowetall! I saw about 50 kits there that either I don't have or are better replacements. Will add ASAP. Thanks! -

Hey W-409 and ToyLvr, thank you for the pics; I just added them to the galleries, in addition to 10 other kits: This concludes uploading my collection of nearly 3500 images of American model kits, and I will continue to update the galleries with new images of missing kits and better images of crappy pics as they get posted in this thread. My goal is to someday make up a huge poster, say 24" x 36", of all these model kits, cropped and cleaned up. Thanks again everyone, and keep the images coming! Take care.
