Dude, this is an impressive and expansive array of pop culture builds. You are the IMCDB of modellers. Particularly loving the Galaxie, and Cobra, with its whitewalls and deeeeeeep wires. I've heard good things about that black 3.0 stuff; it barely registers any light at all.
-
Ha ha, @Tom Geiger, and thank you. I suppose I've cornered the market on flat black, for sure! Last year, I went to a local airplane model show (for the first time ever), and a random dude comes up to me and asked if I was "The flat black car guy"! I have no idea how he recognized me. Small world! I'm getting the hang of search around here, and I just discovered your JEEP thread. NOOICE. Have you posted your 2020 models? Would love to see!

St John Jeep
Stef replied to Tom Geiger's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
This is a great start to a potential mind-bender of a build, Tom. I love projects like this that challenge us to plan ahead, improvise, and solve issues creatively. Just imagine what kind of photos you'll find of this thing in another 14 years. Eager to see where you go from here. -
Thank you, @Mattilacken! Lots of people really like the 66, so here are a few more pics of her. Since the kit's tampo windscreen got destroyed, I did NOT glue the body on. This way, if I ever get another screen, I'll do my best to be more careful. And post your 2020 builds here if you got em, thanks!

Wow, that's hilarious. Saw that image in my research; it really stood out, and I saved it. Love the blue, the dark wheels, whitewalls, and red glass. She's badass.
-
Dude, this is really nice, @larman! Love how clean she is, with some nice subtle washes and metal toning for a hyper realistic look. Never built this one, and just did some research on it. Now I want to get it, too! Are you working on the Fiat as well?
-
Gorgeous builds, @Dan Hay, and welcome to the forum. Especially vibin' on your 37 Chevy. Loving the colour scheme with its whitewalls, blues, oranges, silvers, and blacks.

I'm too kind? How rude of me, ha ha. As you continue to lead with amazing builds, we'll continue to be inspired!

One Model for 2020, down on the farm
Stef replied to Jantrix's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Love this build so much, @Jantrix. A faithful homage, with more than enough personalization to make her fully your own. Exquisite rust/paint effects and metal detailing, and your tailgate art is particularly impressive. Looks like you spraybombed a real tailgate then shrunk it down. Phenomenal work. My only criticism is there's not enough room in the back for Gomez and Tish. -
Thank you so much, @Jantrix. Lots of people seem to like the 66, so maybe I can post a few more pics of it. Love love love your 3100 pickup build for 2020; your weathering, texture, and detailing are just phenomenal. 50% NASCAR, 50% 4x4 wrecker, 50% rat rod... 150% wicked.
-
Thank you for your kind words, @larman. Now that you mention it, I suppose they DO have a bit of an art "objet" appearance, as I look at them all on my shelves. Imagine a thousand model cars displayed in a gallery, all arranged by colour. That would be the coolest rainbow ever. We should organize and make it happen. Would love to see your 2020 builds; post a link if you've got one to share, thanks!

One and Only 2020 Completion - Pikes Peak Hillclimb Toronado
Stef replied to Danno's topic in Model Cars
Ha ha, @Danno. I'm sure they'd be happy with a few pictures along with a lovely essay/poster/card (and I could certainly volunteer to assist with the design/layout), until such a time as you'd like to bequeath anything. Maybe they'd even put it up on their website. I did see a lot of galleries there; who knows. Are there any other Pike's Peak cars you've done, or would like to replicate? You could end up with your very own starting grid! -
Fantastic rescue, @hedotwo. She's as clean and fresh as any AMT 58 Pacer. FLAWLESS VICTORY.
-
Another stellar year of impressive builds, @89AKurt. Few have your skill, imagination, fearlessness, broad range of tastes, discipline, constant output, strategy, documentation, advanced planning, execution, and follow through. You sir, are the Jocko Willink of model cars. Godspeed.

Thanks, @Bills72sj! As soon as I saw @hpiguy's insane apocolypto build of his 66 Chevy: I wanted to get one so bad, and it was months before my LHS got one. Must've watched Chris' video a dozen times, thinking of what I wanted to do with mine. It's a fun kit; if you haven't built one, you'll enjoy it for sure! If you've posted your 2020 builds, drop a link here, and I'll be sure to check 'em out, thanks!

Thank you, @Dragonhawk1066, I'm BACK IN BLACK like AC/DC, ha ha! Have you posted your 2020 builds? Post a link here, and I'll be sure to comment, thanks!

Oh me oh my, I'm bad with names, @89AKurt; but I've been following your builds eagerly for years now. I lurk here daily, and your insane WIP builds inspire me to slowly take on bigger risks and bigger projects. Particularly love how you plan your year ahead of time, and go back to reassess. Everything you touch turns to gold, and your Celexus is gold-pressed latinum. And that Mercedes 666 truck of yours is going to be sinister wicked once complete. GIT ER DONE!

Congrats on such a fine lineup of truly clean builds, @streetmachine11. Your GT-4 is flawless, and I'd especially love to see more of your copper Datsun pickup.
-
DUDE! This is phenomenal, @StanGlover ! Such a clean build of such a rare kit. I salute you. It's super rare to see one of these built or restored to factory specs, and this brings back so many great memories. While it's always nice to see street machines and drag racers, nothing compares to a factory fresh build. Fantastic work!

Helllo, @doorsovdoon, that's exactly right! I've been seeing a few here posting unpainted prototypes they've collected, sometimes molded in crazy colours. I find them aesthetically charming from a pure simplicity perspective, and from a historical perspective, they're worthy of being in a museum. Upon returning to the hobby a few years back, to save time, money, and my eyesight, I did toy with the idea of building my models simply as grey primer queens, but my first few MAD MAX-esque builds looked pretty good in flat black, so I just decided to keep running with it. Not sure I've seen your 2020 builds yet, so please do post a link here if you have, thanks!

Hello, @89AKurt, and thank you for your kind words! FREE CANDY was a really fun build, though I did have a beast of a time making four wheel tubs. It was like making a DOUBLE PRO STREET, ha ha. And yes, flat black can be challenging to work with, for me, as the paint is super sensitive, and just LOOKING at it can cause a scratch. Each one of my models have some minor blemishes here and there, and I try hard to resist the temptation to rip them all apart and respray 'em! Would love to make sure I haven't missed your 2020 builds, if you've posted them, so feel free to post a link here. And dying to see your current WIP, too! Thanks!

Hello, @Erik Smith, thank you very much. I just used my iPhone for pics, and I wish I knew how to get a really good depth of field like many of you cats are able to! I've got a Canon SLR around here somewhere, but I never use it cuz, I don't know what do to with it, ha ha! If you've posted your 2020 builds, please do post a link here, thanks!

One and Only 2020 Completion - Pikes Peak Hillclimb Toronado
Stef replied to Danno's topic in Model Cars
Fantastic build, story, and personal connection, @Danno! While "This is not your father's Oldsmobile", it sure was destined to make it into your loving hands. Incase I missed it mentioned above, have you considered showing/presenting the finished model to the Pike's Peak Historical Society? Looks like they'll open up in the springtime, as restrictions lift, and I'm sure they'd LOVE to display this beauty! -
Thank you so much, @cobraman! You've been putting out great stuff for years (ski-track Cobra, primer Cobra in a crate, etc.), and I'm certain you posted your 2020s recently, yes? I'm looking for them now using search, and I'm about 12 pages deep in Under Glass, and can't find. Post a link if you can!

Ha ha, @Danno, that's hilarious! As it turns out, you're right on all three counts! Not only did I derail a train and meet Joe Black, but also met Jack Black, and his brothers Blackie and Red. And we drink alone. Yeaaaaaaahhhhh, with nobody else. I have the sudden urge to listen to some George Thorogood. And I agree about the whole flat black aesthetic. I was super uncertain how my 32 Packard would turn out a few years back, but it ended up looking kinda gansta! If my eyes were better, and I had more time and money, I'd love to get back into superdetailing, factory colours, and keeping hundreds of paints on hand! Not sure if I've seen your class of 2020 pics; post a link if you have one, cuz I'd love to check 'em out!
