  1. Hello @Ron Warner, you bring up so many good points! You're right that when Round2 has a hit, they're quick to offer up alternate reboxings/versions, for sure. True, we don't always know what the long-term forecasts are, though I've heard it said that some kits are on a 10-year rerelease cycle, while others are more frequent, and others,...may never come back at all. Even if the tooling for MPC's Cavalier and EXP are available, right here, right now, would anyone (besides me), be clamouring to get 'em? I certainly hope a lot of us old dudes would want them! You're also right about how things just mysteriously appear out of thin air; their recent 64 Olds is a fantastic example of this. And yes yes yes, I want the MPC 82 Bronco to come back so hard. I missed the 2005-2006-ish AMT rerelease when I had the chance. Kill me now. I just made a recent post in this thread of dozens of 80s MPC box tops that catalogues a solid majority of their kits. Certain to bring back some memories, I'm sure there's lots there that we model fiends want to come back!
  2. Hello, @Hawk312, I agree, these kits are awesome, and I built BOTH as a kid. I believe the last issue was the red "Pro Street" kit, released in 84, 85, or 86. I don't recall AMT, ERTL, RC2, or Round2 ever reissuing any of these kits. The 3rd gen Camaro is a MUST to come back for this series. With all of the crazy and numerous variants MPC offered on the 3rd gen Camaros, I certainly hope someone out there has the tools, ready to bring 'em back.
  3. Here's a mostly-complete collection of MPC's 80s kits, with some variants. Not all of these have super cool names, but many have bespoke, stylized titles/logos. Some of these, such as the 88 Daytona, 88 Beretta, and 69 Olds 442, came in at the end of MPC's run, but each of these could be folded back into the collection, since they all have custom street machine-y parts. Many of these have been reissued over the years, so there is so much potential for us. I envision: - 8 kits for the series - the creation of a "Forever 80s" logo/badge that goes onto each box, with a "1 of 8", "2 of 8", etc., and "Collect them all!" callouts, to really get the collectors fired up - everything molded in white - new Harry Bradley-esque decals designed for each kit - cool new names, new logos, new box art models, in new colour schemes, with new decals, all built box-stock (no aftermarket parts or detailing), professionally photographed and retouched (no illustrations or renderings) - emulate MPC's 80s box top brand aesthetic, to the letter - main focus on American muscle/street machine cars, with inclusion of trucks, 4x4s, vans, jeeps, convertibles, pro streets, oddballs, etc. - optional glass colours - pad printed tires - expanded decal sheets to include stock graphic packages, gauge clusters, scripting, marker lights, etc. - while it would be AMAZING to pack these kits with new parts, corrections, and/or backdating, I realize this would be asking a whole lot. I'd err on the side of straight reissues, unless serious marketing dollars would be invested into the series. - Many of us might be open to the idea of having select AMT kits rebranded as MPC kits in this series. Round2's recent 69 Plymouth GTX pro street comes to mind, and would fit in well Let's start narrowing down our choices, picking our faves, and seeing which tools are still kicking around that can be used. Let's make this happen.
  4. You are on fire, @1972coronet! I never got the Supra or Celica, and want them as much now, as I did back then! Agree about the BF Goodrich "snow tires"; Round2 could possibly strip the sidewalls and tampo print them. Or, they could throw in their newer tampo printed Polyglas F60-15 tires, and/or their larger L60-15 cousins. The upcoming 70 GTO superstocker features nice fatties that were featured in many of these old kits, and have now had their sidewalls stripped, with Good Year lettering tampo'd on. Also agree on the Chevy/GMC C/K trucks. While I'm no expert on these, there is limitless potential here. And of course, 128,000% agree on the nostalgia factor. I love these kits so much; they fill me with warm childhood/teen memories of building, customizing, trading, and collecting with friends. The sleepovers. The drawings, sketches, and plans. The HOT ROD magazines. The fighting over who gets the last couple drops of gloss black out of that Testors bottle at 11:30 pm on a Saturday night. The loitering and window shopping. The snatching up several kits at once. The bragging rights over getting the first, or last, kit in town. The listening to ZZ Top's Eliminator on cassette, slamming back summer hamburgers, and chugging Coca Cola by the gallon. Those were the days. We're gonna bring 'em back, boys.
  5. Hello @stevez, if you're talking about the Mustang II pro street, I had the yellow one, and loved it. Was reissued in the "AutoScape" series awhile back, so it should still be available for reissue.
  6. Wow, everyone, I am impressed and overwhelmed with all of the interest, support, and insights on this initiative! Thank you all! It's too much and too fast for me to respond; will do my best! We will catalogue old MPC kits and variants, assess the last time they were reissued, and put together a master list to start culling through and/or voting on everyone's favourites.
  7. Hello, @Fat Brian, I agree, these kits mean everything to so many of us. I built so many of them, they all warm my heart, and it's my personal mission to bring back those nostalgic feels. Never built War Eagle, but I'm with you on wanting one. New decals, pad-printed tires, and extra goodies will make this a legendary marketing effort that is destined to succeed.
  8. Oh no, @CapSat 6, this perfectly fits within the time period, and this is one I wanted, but always slipped away. Was this the only T-top version created? It would be awesome for us to collectively catalogue all of MPC's variants, and drool over the reissue possibilities.
  9. My thoughts exactly, @CapSat 6. Most of these kits were marketed with a palpable "street machine" vibe, even though many offered stock parts.
  10. Ha ha, @CapSat 6, me personally, the heavily-tinted glass was something I loved. Knight Rider, 82 Camaro, 84 Corvette, and many more more more I've forgotten. Yes yes yes, the recent 79 Firebird reissue is a bit closer to what I was thinking of recreating, but I want to take the idea further. The neon blues, teals, purples, and pinks are iconic 80s colours.
  11. Hello, @ranma, I do believe these kits are all very similar, and share most of the same base components. I agree that SodBuster's stepside bed should still be kicking around somewhere. Would be nice to see this version available again, for sure.
  12. I agree, @Snake45, there are tons of great subjects that haven't seen the light of day in quite awhile. The pics I posted above are but a fraction of what MPC produced in their heyday. I'm going to compile an inventory of their kits, then the community should be able to help us figure out which ones they most want to see come back.
  13. Hello, @Dragonhawk1066, you're right, there are many many many more awesome kits Round2 could bring back, and some they already have. Their recent "Weekend Warrior" 67 GTO, and their "Deserter" GMC pickup seem to be a couple attempts to recapture the flame, featuring a cool name/wordmark logo combo. I've heard that some of these tools may be forever lost/damaged (74 Charger?, Backaruda Pro Street? Monza?), but there are still plenty of kits to select from. I should compile an inventory of MPC kits that have been reissued in one form or another over the past 20 years, to give us a baseline of which tools are still intact. I agree, I also look forward to Chad's monthly videos; he's always coming up with surprises! Pics not loading for me; are you able to relink?
  14. Totally agree, @CapSat 6, they MUST be molded in white this time. I don't remember all kits having tinted glass, though some did, for sure. Round 2 could continue to offer multiple glass colour options, as they have done with select reissues over the past few years. Harry Bradley-esque decals would be a must... in addition to Round2's latest and greatest offerings of stock stripes, period plates, dash gauges, and bonus graphics. Straight reissues of old box art (Bad Company, HighJacker, etc.) has been OK for me, but what I'm really hoping for here is a new series of art boxes that recapture MPC's strong, classic brand, strike a nostalgic chord, and ignite the collector market to collect the entire series. Will try to design a box or two to get the ideas flowing.
  15. Hello everyone Not sure where to post this; I want to pitch a concept to Round2; not sure how to go about setting things into motion. Basically, what if MPC's 80s kits just kept on going? Cool names (Dirt Devil, Sod Buster, Evil Spirit, Class Act, Night Moves, etc.), with awesome stylized logos, wicked colours, eye-searing box art, and insane decals. I want to call it the "Forever 80s" collection, and reissue some of MPC's (and possibly AMT's) best-loved kits, with new names, new logos, new box art, new colour schemes, and new decals, as though they came from that same era. It would be a sensational hit, and we could probably get it going right here on the forum. Thoughts? Kindest regards, Stef
  16. Ha ha, @showrods, I'll probably butcher mine again, too. Some of those old Revel kits were super intense and fiddly for me, but our combined powers now will build a couple of showstoppers, for sure!
  17. Great idea, Jon. While a big box in one's hands in a hobby shop would be very clear, it might not be nearly as clear to people buying one online. IIRC, Atlantis has also acquired some 1:32 Vega funny cars, and I wonder whether they'll offer up a mini elephant, at some point.
  18. Hello Dave, nice box art design you came up with... I'm really vibing on your warm orange-y tones. Haven't gotten around to building any Moebius kits yet; their Hudsons always looked particularly awesome, and I should pick one up, as soon as lockdowns end.
  19. Dear Atlantis, thank you for all you're doing for the hobby; I salute you, and will support you to great success by buying everything I possibly can. So happy you're bringing this kit out, though your box art and branding could use some TLC, and I want to help. Here's a quick remix for you. Enjoy!
  20. YESSSSSSS. Have been waiting for the Henry J to come back for a squillion years. I butchered it as a teenager. This time, it will be done right.
  21. I'm a hardtop guy, though I am intrigued by this kit's custom cowl treatment. I'm a symmetry guy, so I might try bashing it with the Fireball 500's twin cowls. Also: - Dual Judsons - Custom hood - cut open some nostrils, shave off the hoodpins and louvers - Yellow glass - Bigger wheels and tires - Lower it - Stock grille and headlights - Stock taillight panel - Custom pans - minus bumperettes, and with licence plate recesses filled in I'm a buy-it-on-sight guy, so I can't wait to get started.
  22. Right you are, @Tom Geiger, ever since Round2 brought the Commando back from the grave, everyone's been begging for the snowplow, the full roof, the middle roof, the 69 grille/body, and all the safari parts. Imagine if they'd release a MEGA version that includes all that. I'd buy a case of 'em.
  23. Thank you for the info, @Mark. Maybe I'll get TWO plated Hemis. It would look so evil and sinister.
  24. Love it, @ranma. Grandma's pulling up in the driveway with groceries... and ice cream.
  25. Yes, @Tom Geiger, I remember seeing these now, and very nice, indeed. I never built the Blue Beetle, Falcon, or 50 Pup, and you've convinced me to build them all. Particularly love your Jeeps. I do have the blue MOUNT N GOAT Commando reissue in my stash, and while that kit's front end is nice, I'd much prefer to do mine with your Jeep-y front end. Maybe I can attempt some sort of conversion/crash course in brain surgery.
