  1. I have one of these and I'm not thrilled with it. It requires three filter mediums (charcoal mat, thick filter material and a thin cover over the works). I vent outside so the charcoal isn't needed but the other two mediums clog pretty quickly (the fans seem weak) and soon the solvent smell winds up in the room. Ultimately, the nature of the filters causes over spray to bild up on the walls and "roof" of the box which requires regular cleaning. The mediums require replacement and get pricey. I'm ready to junk this and start over.
  2. Thanks for the info. The slip joint makes sense.
  3. I have tried to find this info via Google with no luck. Just how does the steering gear work on a COE truck? I'm doing a Frieghtliner COE and for the life of me I can't figure out how the steering wheel connects to the steering box (and allows the cab to tilt). Do some trucks have telescoping shafts? Do some have the gear disconnect during a tilt? I've got a pretty good mechanical imagination but I can't figure this out. Thanks
  4. I thought cars parked on the street rust more on the driver's side because passing traffic splashes slop and such onto the side of the car....
  5. You are correct about all Galaxies having the Fairlane 500 trunk trim. I stand corrected. My main point was that Skyliners were Fairlane 500s first and then Galaxies. The 500 cars are seen as more desirable to some Skyliner enthusiasts. Also, the interior design of the Skyliner was unique to that car until used in all later Galxies.
  6. I own one of these 59 Skyliners and they were Fairlane 500s first and when Ford came out with the Galaxie roof line, the Skyliner got folded into that sub series (after all, it had the roof already.) The Galaxie versions still said Fairlane 500 on the rear as that chrome trim was unique to the retractable and Ford didn't want to go to the expense to retool it.

  8. The current issue of Hemmings Classic Cars has an article on the cars run by Kiekhaefer.
  9. I've found a lot of info on the 63" length Frieghtliner day cabs but I've run across the odd photo of one with a shorter cab. Did these trucks come in shorter cab lengths? If so, any idea what? This is in reference to the AMT Freightliner COE I'd like to convert. Thanks.
  10. I'm wondering what color to paint the accordion-like connection between the cab and sleeper in the AMT/Ertl International 4300 kit. Is this thing a body colored metal assembly or perhaps rubber/fabric? Thanks
  11. No hardtop. But there is a version out there that allows the build of a station wagon.
  12. I think you are correct, since it's clearly not next to the alternator. Thanks.
  13. It makes sense that the location you suggest would work. The air compressor is already mounted (upper driver's side) and the power steering goes behind the rounded "nub" on the lower driver's side.
  14. I guess I'll just put it in a logical location.
  15. That makes sense. Now I need to know where the A/C compressor lives on a V800 (separate post on this.)
  16. Any idea where the a/c compressor would hang on a V800?
  17. Is the item circled in red an A/C condenser or an oil cooler. I'm voting for the A/C.
  18. The second unit from the top (the one with the interior details.) What kit is this? Thanks
  19. I have that picture of the firewall...and thanks for the info. Seems those things are the A/C drier and ww motor. Thanks all.
  20. I kind of thought one was a A/C dryer. Still don't know about #2
  21. Can anyone tell me what the two cylinders are used for on the following Peterbilt 359 firewall? Thanks.
  22. True...but remember, the Town Car was a gussied up Crown Vic, as was the Merc version (the "L" model did have a longer wheel base which made it unique.) Don't get me wrong, I loved the Town Car and rented them for years. They did a better job of hiding the roots of the car than they do now.
