  1. Very nice work. I have a 1/16 KW, would like to find some six spoke wheels for it. I have always wanted to try to scratchbuild a Hall-Scott in 1/25.
  2. Freezing water in the tube is an excellent idea
  3. I hear your there. The mods to convert the early-mid sixties chevys & GMC's are SO simple, I guess I take it for granted that people are on the same wavelength as I am, and there were SO MANY of these tractors pulling that style of car trailer, to me, its a natural. Engine wise, you can plop a 348 in there, or if you want to go crazy, try to scratchbuild the truck v-6. One of these would look so RIGHT pulling that trailer. I guess I dont have to say what I am gonna do for a tractor for my car trailer. The Ford C600 or the Lindbergh Dodge are also EXCELLENT choices, if the conversion seems a little too daunting but honestly, converting one of the AMT or Revell '60-'64 pick-up kits is a GREAT way to get your feet wet in this kind of work, before you tackle that '56 Ford F800 conversion. Start with a simple conversion, then move into something a little more elaborate, it will surprise you how easy this stuff can be.
  4. Heres a '41 chevy pu, thats getting the same treatment, still have to extend the trailing edge of the fenders downwards, radius the wheelwells, and make the filler panels to go between the rockers & the running boards. Will also be scratchbuilding a Maple Leaf ('40s Cdn GMC)grill for this one. None of this stuff is particularly difficult, just a matter of getting out of the "buy it" mindset and going to work on it. Is this more the era you were talking about? Really, to me, when you say "vintage" truck model, its taken for granted there is some scratchbuilding involved.
  5. So I guess you missed the word modify? Thats why some hobby shops sell Milli-Putt and sheet styrene. Not much of it in this day & age mind you. Alot of builders think that if it doesnt come out of a box it cant be done. Honestly, these conversions are SO EASY its not even funny. I have already built a '50 F600, widened & extended the fenders down at the back, dropped the running boards down, made sheet styrene filler panels, so I think I can handle that without buying a resin body, but thanks for the tip, Oh, and the Modelhaus body is for a '64, the truck in the picture is not...
  6. The weathering on those wheels is amazing.
  7. And to think that when I open a truck kit, the first thing I usually do is trim the headlight buckets off the chrome tree, and spray the rest with oven cleaner!
  8. I agree with the 5-hole budds.
  9. Thanks. A little new for me, but it might be worthwile to pick one up and pull a mold of the front wheels.
  10. where did the front wheels on the western star come from?
  11. I am doing a '63 in Watkins colors with the Griffen needle-nose tilt hood, should have used one of my torsion bar chassis for that woulda been perfect. But its too far along to back-track now. Early days on this one, air lines are plumbed, chassis painted, home-made 5 hole aluminum wheels on front, home-made resin re-pops of the wheels from the paystar on the back. Sorry about the pic, my wifes little Fuji digital is the pits. This is a mock-up to make sure the pipes were tall enough to clear the top of the reefer trailer.
  12. Of course. I am working on a Peterbilt 353, thats getting a rubber block walking beam, six-spoke wheels, and some old Mark Savage tires . Wheels, tires & suspension make the truck. Nothing looks dumber than a mixer with highway tires and an airbag suspension.
  13. Thanks for the pics, Dave. I saved the torsion bar pics and the V-12 pics for future reference. Appears to be mostly used for long-haul, over the road applications rather than heavy duty or on-off road type applications. Any thoughts, am I on target here?
  14. I have two of the 2nd version. Some of the best AMT box art, really nice. Off topic, but scored a Johan flat box '68 Olds 442 recently, again OUTSTANDING box art. Whats with the ###### box art nowadays? I always REALLY liked the box art on the Autocar A64B too. All of these are nice enough to frame & put on the hobby room wall IMO.
  15. Thanks Scott. Sorry if I steered anyone wrong. I guess that was a LOOOONG time ago, and my memory aint so good.
  16. mine are both T507, with the Watkins box art.Not the first issue?
  17. just painted the molded in kit parts.
  18. By the way, i would welcome comments on the engine color here. Too dark? Too brown?
  19. The second pics are WAY better, i couln't really see much in the first ones. Looks good
