  1. Wow !! I left a message with House of Kolor and they called me back almost immediately. They recommend prepping the body with Spray Away glass cleaner and shooting an initial extremely light tack coat before trying t get the gloss to flow. I confess to being a little heavy handed with my initial coats so maybe this is my problem. Also watched a YouTube about repairing fisheyes but, to tell the truth, I subscribe to the old adage that the enemy of good is better !!
  2. Thanks Carl. Unfortunately I have been plagued with fisheyes but I am just going to lower my standards rather than start all over again on painting the body. I have had this problem on my last three builds. Using HOK urethane show clear over Createx water based sealers and candies. I'm gonna give Createx a call but I'm sure they are just going to have me call HOK !!!!
  3. Anybody have experience with fisheye eliminator additives. There are several available and at least one advertises compatibility with urethanes.
  4. Just about finished painting the body. I’ll post pictures of the assembled hinges when I’m mounting the doors. Basically there are 4 pads on each hinge, 2 of which are epoxied on the inner surfaces of the door and body respectively. Look for the post in a week or so and thanks for following.
  5. I’ve done 3 paint jobs with House of Kolor urethane clear over Createx water based colors. All 3 have been plagued with fisheyes. I even purchased an expensive “Minnow” inline filter and my problem persists. Any recommendations out there?
  6. Making some progress. I actually have a deadline, Spirit of Speed at the NHRA museum in November. Got the chassis, floorpan and motor painted. It’s Createx silver sealer topped with Candy H20 grabber orange. I hope to paint the body next week. The Cadillacdash turned out great. I used Milliput 2 part putty and it was very easy to work with.
  7. My original concept for this build included using interior parts from the Monogram ‘59 Cadillac Eldorado convertible. I narrowed the seats enough to fit into the Deuce cockpit, trimmed the door panels and I’ll be molding the Caddy instrument pad into the Deuce dash.
  8. In for a penny, in for a pound. Actually I was worried about that since there is just that very thin frame beneath the door. Gonna reinforce that with some brass rod.
  9. More a matter of what was on hand. I’d already used the chassis from the ‘32 for another project and a fresh ‘29 roadster kit was sitting on my shelf.
  10. I'm really challenging myself on this one. Model Car Garage photo etched external hinges are not easy to assemble having 6 tiny pieces per hinge !!! I was astonished when I was able to get them to work on the first attempt. I have many hours in getting this passenger side door opened and hinged and I really can't say I'm looking forward to the driver's side !!
  11. This thing is just falling together. The Cadillac drops right in without any modifications to the engine mounts whatsoever. The center crossmember remains in it's original location with only a slight modification to the ladder bars to accommodate the shorter chassis. Also got the top filler installed. Waiting on photo etched door hinges from Model Car Garage.Opening the doors is going to be the most challenging part of this project.
  12. I've lived on the west coast for 40 plus years but I grew up in Washington DC and I've maintained my affection for 60's east coast style. So with that in mine, my latest project is inspired by the channeled full fender rods I recall from my youth. I'll be using the Revell 3W coupe body and the new '29 roadster chassis to craft a '60's show rod type vehicle. I will roll on Modelhaus white walls along with MPC '60 Vette wheel covers. Motivation will be the blown Cadillac from the AMT '59 El Camino kit. Normally the body sits above the frame rails. I've dropped the body about 4 scale inches to cover the rails and sit lower on the fenders Stance is everything. The real wheels sit just right in the fenders without modification. I've notched the front crossmember to drop the front end.The wheelbase on the '29 chassis is a bit long. Any easy fix was to cut the rails at the rear kick and reattach the portions such that the rear wheels are centered in the rear wheel openings.Keeping with the '60'2 show rod vibe, I created pleated panels for the roof filler and running boards. Future plans include '59 Cadillac interior components, opening doors, and candy tangerine metalflake paint with candy black fades. Wish me luck !!!
  13. Outstanding job. The vinyl room treatment is perfect. Can you share your technique ?
  14. Thank you everyone for your comments.
  15. It's done. Moved to under glass !!
  16. I started this one in May of 2020 and finished it the other night. Mostly stock Ertl/AMT 55 Nomad with the addition of Pegasus wheels/tires and some suspension mods to get the stance right. Createx water based candies and pearls, HOK urethane clear. This is the third paint job !!!! Time to get to work on something else.
  17. Thanks! I’m committed to the pinwalls and chrome reverse rims from Pegasus. Might do a black wash to bring out wheel detail.
  18. Thanks David, your comment is greatly appreciated.
  19. It’s laundry bag material.
  20. Looks like I may actually finish this one !!!
  21. You guys are going to think I am out of my mind but, after my Riviera turned out so well I became disenchanted with the paint job on the Nomad. I particularly disliked the purple accent around the side trim. Ultimately I dropped into Autozone and picked up some brake fluid. My brakes work great but my model needed a new paint job soooooooo, after a couple of weeks we have this. The 2K clear came loose pretty easily but the Createx sealer really stuck and I wound up having to sand it off. I reprimed with Tamiya grey primer, sealed with Createx silver sealer and followed that with Createx white pearl. I was shooting for platinum pearl like the Mantaray but it turned out closer to silver than I had hoped. We'll see how the clear affects it. The roof was done with a laundry bag and Createx Candy 2o purple with candy black fades around the perimeter. If I screw up the clear this one goes in the trash can. 2o.
  22. Dang !! The Predicta wheels I thought I had magically disappeared !! So I picked up 2 sets of chrome reverse wheels from Pegasus in their place, pinwalls and medium walls. I’m going with the latter. I did the Elmer’s glue mockup and this thing has the proper stance right out of the box !!
  23. Usually when the paint turns out well the model gets finished. I think that is going to be the case here. Createx pearl white base, Candy 2o yellow shot through a laundry bag on the roof followed by Candy 2o red fading around the edges . All topped with HOK 2K clear. I’m gonna use the Predicta wheels and tires, otherwise everything out of the box. I’ll start foiling tomorrow.
  24. Luv it, no 2 ways about it.
  25. Thanks everyone for your comments. Time to get to work on the next one !!
