2003 jeep rubicon

Thanks for the heads up on that one. This why I like posting as I work. Some of the biggest details can get overlooked by the excitement to get it together. -

Got it into rolling chassis state last night, I had a hard time getting the wheels together, but they finally sunk into place. Also got the drivers seat filled and sanded. The passenger seat is in the background there, filled and waiting to be sanded. We went out to the LHS yesterday, spent too much money and came home with some new toys. Still on the hunt for black flocking...they were out. The local michaels coupon comes out today, so I will try for some craft flocking there. -

Wasnt able to get to rolling chassis tonight, but did get the frame, axels and suspension put together. Also finished the new work bench so I could get the dining room table back to dining status. Started sanding the body, (I got the blob worked out so I wont have to pull paint). -

Had to move into a permanent space before the mother in law comes over for dinner tomorrow night. So off of the dining room table and into the spare room. -
My first build in over 20 years, I learned alot, I only wish I had looked into the forums before it started.

Rattle can...though, shhhhhh. I just picked up an early birthday present on my way home from work. Airbrush and compressor. I have a bunch of cleanup to do before this weekend. (I have to get my workspace into the spare room, so that we can eat at the table.) I can hardly wait to get out to the paint booth to play. -
I am going to go out on a limb here and say that this one is the model.

The paint was pooling up around it, and made it look sloppy. But that could just be painters error. I will take a look at it after I remove the current paint and prep it for a second try. My buddy has a nice lifted 1:1 jeep rubicon, that I am kind of styling this one after. His has flat quarter panels, though its newer than 03', 2011 I think. -
post your lifted models here

I'm in love! Awesome set of rigs. Thanks for the inspiration. -
Looking great! What a fun build. I love watching your filler work, and how smooth it comes out. Keep it up!

Looks great! I always like seeing a well done pearl white paint job. I am thinking of doing white pearl for one of my next builds. Yours looks superb.

There are still a couple of things irking me on the body paint. A drip spot on the door panel that I won't be able to look past, and I've decided after painting to remove the raised jeep logo's from the front quarter panels. So tonight will start the paint removal process, (I have brake fluid on hand, so will try that route. I hear it works pretty well) and then get out the dremel with a small diamond abrasive bit to remove the logos. The chassis, diff's, sway bars and axels will be ready to pull from the paint booth by the time I get home from work tonight so I will work on getting that together, as well as the wheels. See if we can't get her into a rolling frame tonight. Thanks for all the great feedback guys, it is much appreciated. -
Got started on the 03' Rubicon last week, first coats of paint on the body, smoothing, and sanding, and filling and sanding some more. Body color is Testors metallic black. My thoughts are to do a black on black jeep. Got the transfer case glued together, and the front seats primed and sanded as well as the floor panels. The once chrome wheels are drying in the paint booth, as well as the front and rear diff, axels and sway bars. Will post more picks as it comes along. Comments and friendly criticism is always welcome! Amanda

I do like jeeps, I also enjoy the 20's and 30's of the automotive world. I have always dreamed of having that 1:1 34' ford pickup. Maybe someday. Am I the only one that sees more kits and wants to build them when you've only just begun a different kit. Thanks guys for the great welcome. I took some pics of the build progress on the 03' rubicon this evening and will start a in progress thread in the appropriate forum spot and get the pics up.

Hi there! I'm Jeepgirl from the Portland area of Oregon. I started building model cars when I was young. I wish I still had some of them (if for no other reason than to resurrect them from their youthful doom). I just finished my first Model in almost 20 years. A MPC Model kit #785 WWII Military Jeep that turned out okay. I realized during that build that there was so much I could do to improve my build skills, as well as a lot of realizations of things that I was just plain doing wrong. I didn't do nearly the research that I should, nor taking the time to sand, and prime...etc. I started last week on a Revell 2003 Jeep Rubicon kit. I made the rookie mistake of getting overly excited and got paint on the body before I had a chance to read through some Forums and learn some things. Now I am slowing down, and will likely end up stripping the body of its paint, (luckily just Testors metallic black) and do it the right way. I am taking my time with the rest of the parts though, sanding the mold seams, ejection spots, filling and sanding some more. Time to dig out the brake fluid and get the paint off of the body. Salvage what I can, and sand, prime, and paint it the right way. This jeep is a funny thing, there are a lot of details that wouldn't be the normal body paint color. The diamond plate on the rear gate, the visors etc. Which are all going to need a lot of extra attention.
