I've been a Mini owner forabout 20 years now. In my opinion an original classic color suits best on a Mini, also because this model is a pre 1967 model and not a later (>1993) injection Mini. I would choose for snowberry white with black roof, dark red with black roof, grey or caramel brown.
If you really are lookig for a modern color than I think orange (black roof) or indigo (silver roof) is best. And please use the original steel rims or Minilights....

Well, I think the body is ready for the basecoat this weekend. Today I did the following.
Removed the doorhinges to make suicide doors. Still not sure if I should make new hinges at the rear side of the doors. I removed also holes for the doorhandles. I filled the lower doorlines and the vertical ones go all the way down now...

Wow... i love it.

Mike thank you. So you mean to fill the hotizontal door line and extend the vertical ones all the way down. Hmm maybe that is not bad at all. And good luck with your project... looking forward to follow that one.

Ok i am leaving the doorlines original. Suicide doors i don't know yet. Indeed Richard, maybe better than to leave the door flat and only have the handle visible at the front side...

Richard, the underside of the engine is there already. Only it stops at the lower line of the rear wheel well. That is the reason why i closed the rear wheel wells...

Wow Jim, at least your model has an engine in it.
My biggest problem is to close the rear wheel wells because there is no engine
Oh and still ik must look good...

I don't know if it is too far forward. I just did it like this because i liked the looks. When you look at the black one a few posts back i think then front wheels are a bit more forward than mine.
The wheel wells are sculpted. I took the original fenders and cut off the outside. I glued them at the inside on the "wrong" side. So the outside of the left fender is glued on the inside on the right hand side. Then closed the gap with plasicard. It sounds easy but it took me hours to get this. And still it is not ready.

Hi all,
It was a bit quiet for a while. That doesn't mean that I didn't do anything. I spent hours of filling and sanding the inner wings. When dryfitting I wasn't happy how it looks. So I changed the inner wings again so I was able to do a little channeling. Now the body is lowered a bit and you do not see the chassis anymore. I think I must lift the lower doorseam and the lower hinges a bit now. I also drilled some holes in the front suspension. They looked too beefy to me and now it looks better although I think it is a not done for a real Volksrod...
(Now I must try to show the pictures, I have troubles again with uploading).

The funny thing is that I don't know much about hotrods and I don't have anything with Beetles in general. But mix them together and I love them... I also planned to build a convertible and after that one with a topchop. And maybe even more...

Yes... Something like these. When I have time I post some more photos. I am a bit further but had some troubles putting more photos to the opening post.

Hi all,
This is my first build here on this forum. On our Dutch forum I became intereseted in hotrods. Although I don't know much about hotrod I decided to build a Volksrod. A hotrod based on a VW Beetle. Maybe it is not 100% correct when finished. I build this one because I fount out that I enjoy it a lot to alter things in a model. I used a cheap kit (MrHobby) so when it end in the trashcan it is not a big problem. But after being started it was better to use a more expensive kit with more details. I thinks that was easier. I planned to build more Volksrod in the future. Here some pictures.

Hi all,
My name is Dennis and I am 41 years old. I live in Almere, a young city at about 20 miles east of Amsterdam. I work in Amsterdam as a security guard. My hobbys are photography, reading, and of course building models. I build model cars mostly at 1/24 and 1/25 scale. Since about 20 years I started building again, but now more or less professional. Last month I finished a Ferrari Dino 246GT. at the Dutch forum I became interested in hot rods. So my new project is building a Beetle rod. I found that I like to rebuild a model is a lot of fun. I don't know much about hot rods so maybe my build is not 100% realistic. But for me it is most important to learn the skills of modelbuilding. I hope that I can learn a lot heer because I've heart that you guys make some great things here.
