  4. can anyone explain the difference between a pearl paint job and a gloss paint? looking at pictures they look almost identical, but i think the pearl one has more of a pink sheen to it? what would pearl black look like?
  5. cool build! Love the later edition gallardo front nose though, shame theres no kit
  6. I was thinking about making a White ferrari 458 with a black roof, I have several options.. 1) Gloss White, gloss black 2) metallic white, gloss black 3) pearl white, pearl black? (is pearl black do-able?) or any combination of these? any thoughts? I'm going to be using tamiya spray paints.. for clear coat will i need a gloss coat or just the regular clear and sand/wax will be fine?
  7. thanks, notes taken, will start rough draft
  8. Ah thanks for the detailed response, will get ordering tools once i get a basic design of what i want. Probably will start basic and not too advanced until i get comfortable with cutting my bodies.. Also do you have any tips for being styrene/polystyrene? Heat to make it softer? and will i need to make a mold to conform it, for instance if i needed to make a hood scoop, make a wood block and conform the styrene to that shape? Whats the difference between styrene and PS?
  9. I have a few questions about making a custom body kit before i mess everything up, I'm planning on adding skirts, front and rear body kits, and possibly adding more vents to the body 1) Tools I will need: other than the basic, hobby knife, sand paper, various cements, 2) what materials will i need? what kinda putty, and plastics 3) better to start with a picture of what i want, or free hand?
  10. What kinda glue do you guys use? White glue?
  11. Great work Jeremy! Love scratch builds!
  12. Well I discovered models from gundam, it all started there. It was fun to cut those little parts off, sand them glue them together. Then i discovered car modelling at a trip to Michaels (arts and crafts store) and saw a section and there were Revell kits. I started off with a Mustang, Ferrari 612, and later on a Ferrari Enzo. This was probably back when i was 13? And believe me, my painting was horrible. The first two kits i built I brush painted the body. They turned out horrible. The third kit was spray painted and is still horrible. (no shine, very dull and very thick paint) I quit car modelling when i was around 14, and recently got back into it since i received a gift, a model car. The car by no means is great, but is a HUGE step up from what i have previously did. So i guess you can say I will be continuing this hobby for a while. Have a model ordered and have a model sitting at home waiting. And models i basically get from a local hobby store or Michaels, or online. I myself play video games and build models but models are my personal preference. People my age are hooked onto the internet, and have probably not discovered the art of modeling. I would also like to add in, that I've told my friends to do modeling but most start out with Gundam (more popular to asians) hahaha. Most gave up because of their lack of skills (most likely cant paint so didnt recommend them to car models) or they cant support it (finance/time)
  13. I'm 17, and my parents were never into this hobby. I'm getting into this hobby hopefully will continue but for the most part I dont see many teenagers my age building models..
  14. Awesome! Thanks for the quick and very informative reply
  15. So what was the verdict on the Rustoleum primer? I want to use it on a Revell body, but only if it works! Also will the Tamiya clear be glossy after wax and polish or will i have to get the glossy clear for it to shine?
  16. Sorry new to modelling so whats a light bucket? o.o

  19. Whats the best way to glue on clear parts? i tried plastic cement from tamiya and it melts the glue, super glue fogs up the clear part.. any suggestions?
  20. I have some revell kits that dont really have the indent or whatever thats lower where the clear part and black part is separated, how would one go about doing those?
