Thanks Graham! I originally was going to go the easier route, and just take some sand paper and scuff it down to show some of the red oxide bleeding through in a couple of places. After watching a lot of youtube videos and a lot of help from friends on Instagram, I decided to go all out and try something completely new to me. Boy, I'm glad I did! It is a super cool new skill that I now have in my arsenal, and something that is really fun to do!

Awesome looking build. The wheel and tire combo really set it off with that lift! -
Such an amazing build with amazing details! Love the use of leather, and weathering as well!!

I didn’t post any of this WIP on here as it’s all on my Instagram. This is a Hasegawa VW Type 2 pickup. I chose to do a weathered Gulf Livery. This is my first weathered build, and it has to be one of the most fun builds I’ve done in a long time. I’m very pleased with the outcome of my first attempt at weathering. The paint is Gulf Orange and Gulf Blue from Splash Paints, and as always…..is amazing! All of the weathering was done with Vallejo Acrylics, and AK Washes. I used a combo of salt technique, sponge technique, and brush painting for all of the chipping. The front stance was achieved by cutting the front fender wells out, some of the front seat, and notching the chassis so the front suspension would tuck way up in there. The rear stance was achieved by mounting the rear axle directly to the chassis so it sat much lower. The interior was painted in Tamiya Dessert Yellow. Brown embossing powder was used for carpet. Highlight Model Studio door panels were used along with Highlight Model Studio MOONEYES pedals, and dash dress up parts. I chose to do safari windows as well from Highlight Model Studio. Highlight Model Studio tags/tag brackets, and headlight visors were also added for some vintage VW style. The wheels are 3D printed by myself, and are from Slowlys Models on cults 3D. I chose to use the kit supplied hub caps to add some depth since they’re tall. RB Motion valve stems were also added. All of the stuff in the bed is random stuff I had such as some 3D printed gas cans, jack, die cast jack stands, the factory weathered wheels and tires from the kit, as well as a 911r Fujimi engine that I built and added. Thanks for checking it out, hope you all enjoy!

Thank you very much! 2k clear has some awesome depth! Thank you! This was a great kit to build, as any Tamiya kit has been, haha. Pics were taken with my iPhone 12 pro max, not too shabby for a phone. Thank you! Thanks man! The ole' iPhone 12 pro max takes some great pictures Thank you!!! Thanks a lot!! I was using white as my background for the longest. Black changes everything it seems. It definitely makes things stand out more it seems.

Thanks Rich! This kit was an absolute dream to build. As every Tamiya kit has been, it just fell right together. 2k Clear is definitely a game changer on your final finish as well.

Again, I have not posted any of this in the WIP page, as I have the entire build on my Instagram/Facebook, Scott's Scaled Builds. This was a super fun build and went together like any Tamiya kit does….with no issues at all. The color is Turbulence Grey from Splash Paints topped with their 2k clear as well. I decided to do a split carbon roof with carbon decals from Scale Motorsports. The mirrors, front splitter, and side skirts have also been covered in Scale Motorsports carbon decals. The interior is stock, but has embossing powder to simulate carpet. It’s painted using Splash Paints semi-gloss black, and interior red paints. The wheels are Volk TE37s, and we’re printed by myself. They are finished in Splash Paints Beluga Black, and topped with Splash Paints 2k clear. They also have red Hobby Design Volk logos, some lug nuts, and RB motion valve stems. Stock kit tires were used and fit perfectly. The chassis was slightly weathered to give it some depth. Thanks everyone for checking it out! On to the next one!

Thanks Carl! Thank you for the compliments! Believe it or not, that is the molded in rivets for the flares. I went over them with a fine brush with some Tamiya Chrome Silver. Turned out awesome! -

Thank you! Not bad for an Iphone huh? Thank you! This has to be my favorite Evo color and it looks great on this old Galant Thank you! -
Hey guys, I haven’t posted any WIP of this build since it’s on my Instagram. The kit is a Hasegawa 1973 Mitsubishi Galant GTO. This was such an enjoyable kit to build! The paint is Splash Paints OEM Mitsubishi Electric Blue Pearl topped with Splash’s 2k clear coat. This color is soooo nice on this old school JDM Mitsubishi. The hood was covered in Scale Motorsport Carbon Fiber to add a little modern touch to this classic. I also decided to ditch the chrome bumpers and other parts and painted them in Splash Paints Gunmetal Metalizer. It fits very well with the Blue body color. All window trim was done using BMF, and turned out amazing. The wheels are Works Meister S1’s from dirty_customs_43 on cults3d, and printed by myself on my Photon Mono X. They are finished in Splash Paints Gunmetal Metalizer for the face, and Splash Paints Hyper Silver for the barrels. RB Motion valve stems were also used for extra detail. Some Zoom-On brakes were also added for a brake upgrade. The grille needed a little update as well, so I cut out the kit solid piece, and using some photo etch mesh…I modded it to look like the later model grille. The front was also missing something. So, I took some 0.3mm styrene and made a chin spoiler that’s very period appropriate for this car. The interior is pretty much box stock except for some added seatbelts, and a Zoom-On Momo Steering wheel. Carpet was also simulated using some black embossing powder. Thanks for checking it out. Please leave any comments or questions. On to the next build!
