1:1 On the farm, Seed wheat cleaning
thejunkman replied to thejunkman's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
I am always adding more video and other stuff to my site as well. Keep watching I got more coming. I have some of my first videos over on my website that have commentary on them (they are not on Youtube) that you might like. My original "Farming in Nebraska" video, I shot all of this when I was 13 (about 1991) or so, some on 8mm film, lol Later in 2006 I was able to edit it digitally after I transferred it to DV tape. Here is "Farming in Nebraska 2" a 20 year follow up. almost all of this was shot digitally in 2008 -
Of course I do! I never get rid of anything, thus the nickname. It is completely STOCK as close to factory showroom as possible. No engine or axle swaps here, I hate it when I see the early ones (this is a 1949 before they got a chrome grill) all chopped up into rock rigs. Here is just an example of 1/2 of my motorcycle collection that are restored and running. Might give you a glimpse into the sickness that is collecting and restoring. I like to hone my skills with different projects, thus why I decided to build a model replica of one of our Kenworth W900 I thought it would stimulate a different part of my brain. I have been doing a lot of this kind of stuff since I was very young with my Dad. Not a truck, but one of my pickups. This was my race rig back when I traveled around to motocross and arenacross races before I was married and slept in the back with my tools. One of my "other" pickups. Coming down from camping at about 12,000 feet in early July. Still snow.

After the cleaning the wheat is ready to go into the ground. And here is how that happens. -

My video camera might be there at that time. We will see. Got to get the base and plexi cover finished yet. Oh and a few minor details like the hood ornament, hubcaps and exhaust flapper on. -

Yep, everyday. Got to feed the world somehow. -
With my "On the farm" model truck build nearly complete. I thought I would share some other farm related things. Here is a video cleaning seed wheat in preparation for drilling (planting). Not all farms do this step but it is necessary for increased yields and a more quality crop come harvest time. There are many different types and sizes of cleaners, this one is designed around a mid-sized farm like ours. This video I made explains it more, plus pictures! One could argue that this is the first step in how bread is made. This one is made by Clipper.

Thanks. I am not sure my model and weathering is THAT good, but I surprised myself. I may get a chance to do some forced perspective in those exact locations. That is if weather cooperates. -

Until I can get some proper pictures and get the hubcaps and correct exhaust flapper on. -
Since this thread was moved from "Off Topic" I decided to delete the text and pictures since it is meaningless to be in this forum. Sorry folks.

Well it is finished, technically. Not quite ready for an "Under glass" posting as I have to build the "glass" still. Also I need to take some proper beauty shots of it so these will have to do. The under glass posting (keep an eye out for it) will have some minor changes and one or two little details I am still working on. You will have to wait and see on those. Anyways the video explains and shows a lot more than pictures. Kenworth W900 1/16th scale replica VIDEO There are about 30 pictures here. Kenworth W900 1/16th scale PICTURES Properly tagged for 40 ton on Farm plates. -

Nice builds! I was hoping to see a Two Story Falcon in here. We have one, and I got to say I hated driving it, rough rider especially on dirt and would always get stuck in the field back when we had cattle. I suppose some loved them. It now sits in the pasture with the other retired equipment. -

Thanks. When I get the W900 done I may put our T600 on the list of builds for the future, maybe an Xmas present for my dad. I have another vehicle planned in between though. Won't start it anytime soon, it is riding season got to get up into the mountains and make some videos. -
A truckers view of mother nature.

I know that stretch of interstate well. Most of those pictures are on the West end of Colorado, from Grand Junction to Eagle. This is what it looks like to be on top of those mountains. If you could look straight down from the middle of this picture you would see that interstate where you took some of those pictures. This picture was taken at 13,000 feet with me and my friends dual sports. Most farmers would say the same thing. Here is what farmers see, unlike trucking, farmers see the same thing year after year. I do ponder that my great great grandfather was looking at the same view only from behind a horse sitting on a 1 bottom plow. Much why I work hard so I can play hard. -

Let me guess the aprox. location. My guesses are in bold. You are near my neck of the woods here. -

Here is another shot for your viewing pleasure and then I will quit jacking your thread. BTW now you need to make me a Cornhusker 800 hopper trailer Eventually that sleeper will be gone and the day cab panel window installed. All the sleeper does is fill up with dirt and a rear window would be nice for maneuvering at the elevator. -
I guess I am probably the odd person out in the conversation as I am a first timer and a novice builder, so take my opinion with a grain of salt. On my project I have been mostly just using what ever I have left over from other projects. Rattle can and even automotive stuff. As for pirmer I am cheap and dirty. I used sandable primers on parts that I wanted a "rough" look. For colors I mix and match my stuff, but I do have a background in automotive paint and bodywork with my restorations that I have done. Mind you this is not finished (you can find the build in the On the workbench section) I used very little "hobby" specific paint as that stuff is expensive for what you get so I only buy it when I need a specific color and not much of it. The blue is a Wally World color with a Krylon flat topcoat. The frame base color is a black sandalbe PPG automotive primer that I always have on hand.

I was going to wait until I had the video finished but I could not wait. Here is another update. Getting closer folks. Stay tuned for a video. More pictures here http://www.thejunkmanadv.com/the-junk-mans-blog/adventures-in-modeling-part-6 Finished interior, savvy viewers may notice the logo on the spring clip holding the scale tickets. Initial weathering on the cab and some detailing Some weathering under the hood, it may get displayed hood up at times. Some cab and hood mock up, FYI for the nit pickers. The hood and cab are just sitting in position the hinges are not installed the hood will sit level, also the intake pipes are not glued in either. You may notice the pin striping, I replicated it best I could from the original, then sanded it with 1500 grit to wear some of it away just like the real thing. I am reasonable happy with it. I don't think I could have done any better so I am happy. -

IMO they looked futuristic when they came out. Here is the one we use on the farm. -
Stumbling across your pictures here brought up some fond memories of a friend of mine's Nissan 720/D21 "Hard Body" I believe it was an 85 either way it was in that transition period where it had some of the early quad headlight/grill 720 styling and later D21 bed without rope hooks. FYI the grill was gone in favor of a home built bumper/grill guard heavy enough for hitting deer and small trees at speed. Anyways I don't have any pictures of it but I have video of it from our high school days out mudding. I had (still have) a 1977 AMC Jeep CJ5 "Golden Eagle" at the time. Here is some screen shots. Gone are the days that you can buy these in running condition for $300. My friend still has this but it has been put out to pasture. The constant ingestion of water and mud through the intake and fuel system (too cheap to buy a gas cap when a t-shirt rag would do) eventually ended the engine. He got 15 years of service out of it as a 2nd owner. It was beaten pretty badly when he got it. You can see it lived on a steady diet of water and mud here. lol Eventually the rear diff would be welded for traction. No worries of breaking it as that little Z24 couldn't break out of a paper bag.

thejunkman replied to kilrathy10's topic in Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Thanks, I kinda figured that. I am not going to jump on anything now but I will put this in the back of my mind for later. I probably won't do any suspension conversion, but I would have to do some modding into a flat top sleeper. More on topic. I like this trailer, I wish there were better selections of trailers to start with for different industries, but I suppose there is little demand for them.
