  1. I managed to get a set of rain tires and the Japan rear section (including the rear wing) from MFH. Instead of making the 1976 Japan GP version, I am more interested in making the Canadian GP version for car No. 3, Mr. Jody Scheckter.

I wonder if anyone from that time could kindly talk a bit about his car, particularly the rear section? Did he have the holed seat or just the plain seat? I have so many questions but couldn't find much insightful information. Apart from recreating it in 1/12 scale, I am also very curious about the design of the car.

I have left the engine partially finished for more than a year...

Any information will be greatly appreciated!

Larry, I currently have a build thread on the Matra. You can see the parts that I have had to deal with.  I also have threads on the Lotus 78.  The Lotus 78 is a much better lit than the Matra.  I have collected most aftermarket items for the Williams FW14B.  My take is that the Tamiya kits get better with each passing year.

I totally agree with you, John! and thank you for your reply.

I have built tamiya's 1/12 Porsche 910 years ago and it wasn't that good an experience.

  3. Hi everyone,

Hope you are all doing well.

I have been collecting Tamiya's 1/12 big scales for some years and I have collected many of them. Although, most of the kits are way older than me. I want to ask for some insights here since I know most of you are very experienced modelers throughout your lives - How good were those kits? for example, the 1/12 935 martini, 1/12 934, the several 1/12 70s F1 series, 312T, M23, P34, lotus 78, and more, and the MP4/6, fw14b - Were these full interior kits considered kind of SUPER KITS at that time?

And also, what about Tamiya's military models in that same time?

    Thanks!

  4. I think after all they are trucks...eh? RC though.

I treated them like scale models...that's why I insist on buying hard shell body ones. Tamiya's the best!

The F-150 Ranger goes first. It is a Blackfoot 2016, with 3D printed emblems. I call her "the Fireball." Got some aftermarket flame decals for her. Window nets made from masking tapes.

Then I have the Tundra. I actually have a 2020 TRD Offroad one, so this Tundra is a must-have to me.

Only caveat is that with resin, it doesn't sand/cut at the same rate as plastic. Resin can be more brittle and when sanding it, you'll notice that it sands/grinds away 'faster' than your average plastic kit. It also wouldn't hurt to wash any resin pieces, or wipe them down with alcohol.

One never knows what kind of process was done to remove the resin from the mold be it some type of mold release, or what have you. When it comes time for paint, any type of action that can ward off surprises is always a good thing! :D

Considering the scale - 1/12, I have to say my 787B kit, particularly those car body parts- are very heavy and thick. But I think you are right - if resin has any chemical reaction with alcohol which I have no idea at all - but I'll be extremely cautious for sure. Thanks again!

That's an open ended questions that can get you many answers. Basic tools you'll need------A good PE cutter as there are certain cutters that are very good for cutting it away from the fret. I'd use those strictly for cutting that.......anything else can make them dull.

Make sure you've got plenty of 5 min. epoxy on hand. This size of a kit will need it and you'll need toothpicks and such to apply it. If you're a regular builder of models, there's really not much else different in the way of tools you'll need. Good Exacto blades, several types of glue depending on application besides epoxy (CA or "superglue", MEK liquid type glue).

Good set of tape for masking-----I prefer Tamiya tape. A bit more expensive but very effective.

It would be a good idea if you haven't done so to jump on the 'net and get as many reference pics as possible. MFH while their instructions are good, doesn't give you many pics of the real deal when it comes to detailing. This car of course changed from race to race, but it wouldn't hurt to still get as many close up pics as you can.

The biggest tool you'll need in your arsenal is patience! MFH kits are no joke especially in this scale as I now have one (Ferrari 250 GTO). You'll come across things that might leave you scratching your head, so don't hesitate to ask questions if something has you stumped.

If you're able, do post pics so that we can see where you may be having difficulties.

I'm sure others will jump on with more input, so stay tuned!

    Thanks a million, sir!

My bad that I failed to mention that I am actually pretty confused with the resin kit itself since it feels super hard to cut - then I found I might find something useful from home depot will go there and check tomorrow. Plus I am currently an international student so I actually have all my tools back in my hometown however I do want to cut and sand this 787B to kill some time.

    Anyway, thanks again!

Sounds like you didn't check your " Blind Spot " when you changed lanes. No ticket, but just a pissed off driver. Just make sure you check your mirrors and the blind spot  and you'll be good.

Thank you and yes that was absolutely my fault. I just check my mirror and it was nice and clean. Need to check my blind spot, definitely.

  8.

I am now in Canada, Ontario, today I drove on the highway and I was going to change my lane, I looked the mirrors but I didn't see any cars however there was a car behind me. I believe he must break suddenly and he hooted me badly. But no accident and he quickly drove over me looked back angrily. I raised my hand to express that I'm sorry. I know this is absolutely my fault, I just wish to know what will happen next? Will I get a ticket for this?  Thank you guys!

  9. hey, guys long time no see! just wish to share something with you guys since this is the off-topic lounge...
