    IMG_4125_edited-1.jpg

I built this using a Revell '32 roadster body and coupe fenders. The engine is an early Hemi out of a '53 Studebaker. I still have a few parts to "bolt" on. It needs taillights (I'll probably use '39 Fords), and headlights.

I am going to build some nerf bars out of paper clips. The paint is out of a spray bomb, as I stated in another post. That's the last time I will use it!

I plan on building another twin to this one, only better. The adaptation of the fenders to the roadster body is surprisingly complicated. I had to rebuild the interior completely. The color of the interior is a combination of acrylics.

  2. I recently put together a deuce roadster (pictures to follow). I had painted it with a spray can (my last spray bomb paint job forever). The paint came out fine except when I began polishing it I discovered it was way too soft.

I pondered carefully what to do about it. I considered disassembling the roadster and repainting it. That's what I was about to do when I thought about Future. I decided to try it as I could always do the repaint later. I poured a tiny bit of Future into a bottle cap. I used Q-Tips to apply a thin coat to the model. After letting it dry I buffed it lightly with a micro cloth.

The Future laid down smoothly and attained a brilliant shine. It should last forever as it is simply an acrylic clear coat. You can use it over any paint. If possible you can simply airbrush it on, but I couldn't in my case.

I strongly recommend Future as a clear coat.

  3. Why did I announce my views? It's really pretty simple. It was said so that people who cared could understand why I am not feeling at home here. If I hadn't stated that I was an atheist and a liberal, you all would be wondering what I was talking about.

It should go without saying that certain subjects leave me out in the cold. Think about what it would be like if I constantly berated Christians, then you can understand how I feel.

  4. This is very confusing, you say this is no place for politics or religion.Yet you feel compelled to announce that you are an athiest and a liberal. No one would have known either if you had not announced it here. Many here (especially me) could care less what you beliefs are.Perhaps the reason you don't "feel at home" is that you make antagonizing posts like this.Everyone knows not to discuss politics and religion,it's just an unwritten rule that MOST people follow. If you don't want to discuss politics or religion,DON'T.No one forces you to do so.And you don't like it here, well, you know what to do.

What? There is a topic on right now which is nothing but politics. It was very insulting. I find it hilarious that people don't mind religious or political discussion as long as they agree with it. It's okay for someone to praise God or post some such statement as "person X is up in heaven building models now", but if I answered either post, I would be castigated. I see nothing wrong with my having announced my views. That announcement did not insult anyone, so why does it bother you?

  5. SO TRUE. SO TRUE. ;)

I'm a Christian and a conservative, and like to discuss all kinds of view's, but "NOT ATTITUDES" :P , and I don't take anyone's opinion's of me or my belief's personally.

I think everyone has a right to their own beliefs, but should be careful how they share and present them here or anywhere.

Some people seem to wear who they are , like a chip on their shoulder, just waiting for for a good fight - It's a shame, because life's too short

Look in the mirror. I am no more looking for a fight than those on the other side.

  6. And you're telling us this why???

If you don't want anyone to post any political/social/religious views that oppose your own, there's a very simple and foolproof solution: Don't post any political, social or religious posts!

We would never have known that you're a liberal and an atheist if you hadn't made the announcement yourself!

In a recent political topic, we were told that liberals were idiots (or something to that effect). I took this personal as a liberal. On the other, more restrictive, forum, I objected to the inclusion of religion in one topic. When I answered it, I was told to leave the country.

The person who questioned my patriotism is on this forum also, although I'm not going to name names. That person knows who he is. I would very much appreciate an apology from him.

Many on here were aware of my views, including you, before I posted this. I just don't want those views to define who I am on this forum.

  7. Dave the stuff at walmart was a joke. Im using the HoK lacquer available through Slixx and Black Gold, its a true automotive paint. sprays like butter...

Actually, the paint available from walmart was Kustom Kolor paint by Valspar (the mfr of House of Kolor). I like both types a lot. They are vastly different, however, and require different techniques. Check out my candy apple convertible for a view of both types of paint. I used a defferent type on each model and you can hardly tell the difference.

  8. Marcus, I think that you will find that although this forum is not as "rigid" as the other mag forum, most people tend to avoid troublesome issues. There was some political discussion during the election but with such a huge "elephant in the room" so to speak it was impossible not to talk about. But all in all it was pretty uneventful banter. Your best bet would be to avoid any non-model related thread that would inspire you to add your $.02, potentially adding gasoline to the fire. This is advice that I take myself.

Thank you Rob. I agree completely with your advice and intend to live by it. Sometimes it's hard to tell about a topic until you load it, but that's a good time to simply drop the subject.

  9. I would wait at least a week. As for what tape to use, there are as many choices as there are members on here. I use 3M Scotch masking tape (the expensive kind made in Canada). It's available in several widths. I buy the 1 1/2" wide and cut it to the proper width. It's very strong and won't bleed through like cheaper tape.

With any masking, allow the paint to cure completely before using to avoid trouble. I love HOK lacquers. I just don't know how much longer they will be available. Many states have outlawed their use already.

  10. I came to this forum for one reason; to see the beautiful creations of real artists. I didn't come here to discuss religion or politics. I have always believed that those two subjects should not be brought up when the company you are keeping could possibly have different views.

I have never felt at home on this or other model forums because I am a liberal and an atheist. I have steadfastly refused to get involved in certain discussions in order to preserve good order and avoid rancorous debate. I broke that rule once on the other forum and it caused me to get my patriotism questioned. That wasn't good for me or for the person doing the insulting.

All I'm asking is that people treat me the way you would like to be treated.

  11. I will answere with a question perhaps? Instead of doing another clear over it after he wet sanded it, could he maybe polish it up some using automotive polish like the liquid kind in the bottle? Just a thought. Jody

That would be my choice of solutions. I have used Krylon Crystal Clear many times, but only over lacquer or acrylic color coats. It forms fish eyes when used over other clears or anything too shiny.

  12. I am not a big fan of overhaulin'. The stupid human tricks are boring. Foose is an abviously talented designer and builder. I don't like the huge wheels he uses on the object cars. At least part of the reason for the show is to promote his wheel business.

What we need are more straight building shows without the soap opera part.

  13. WELCOME HOME, Brother.

    I'm USMC, 105mm FO, In Country 1969-70.

If you have it, HBO will be presenting "Final Salute" with Keven bacon on February 21, 2009. It's the story of a group that brings home the KIAs from Iraq. I read the book last week. Lots of tears. These people rerally take care of our fallen heroes.

You ever get up to Washington, DC for the Rolling Thunder demonstration? Or Memorial Day, Or Veterans Day? I'm a National Park Service volunteer at The Wall and am usually up there for those occasions.

I was stationed at the Pentagon in the early 80s. I visited on Veteran's day 2004. I spent some time at The Wall with my fallen comrades. It was very moving. If you were there then I probably met you.

I was in country in 68-69 with 2/17th Air Cav; 101st Airborne Division. I have HBO and will be watching the show.

  14. I hear ya , brother. Life is good. Unfortunately it's too cold here in Florida today to go out in the shop and work on a model car. I miss the '60s but am still there. Blue jeans and tye dye T-shirts are still my kind of clothes. Your handle - Helipilot and you like '60s music. That leads me to think you might have been a chopper pilot in the 'Nam.

Yup. Flew scouts in an Air Cav unit.

  15. I hope the rest of you are having as good a day as I am. I'm just sittin' here working on a deuce roadster and my candy apple convertible. The TV is on a music station playing 50s and 60s hits. Buddy Holly is on now singing "Im Lookin' for Someone to Love" . This month marks the 50th annniversary of the deaths of him, Richie Valens and the Big Bopper. Boy was he a genius!

I found out a long time ago that hot rods and rock and roll were inseparable. I am still able to be transported back to the 50s and 60s by the music. The Everly Brothers are on now singing "Bird Dog". I was a sopomore in high school when they came out with that million selling #1 hit. It reminds me of a certain doey eyed brunette. What a time!

I feel sorry for all who didn't experience those times. Anything was possible then. Here's to getting back to the good times. For all of you who have been caught up in the depression, I sincerely hope things get better for you soon.

    Peace and goodwill to all.

  16. I use Ambroid for bare plastic. For painted or chromed plastic, I use Loctite super glue. It's great stuff and comes in a very nice bottle with a pointed tip that never clogs.

For clear plastic, I use either Elmer's or Aleene's tacky glue. I thin out the Aleene's for holding flocking.

  17. It is a dual action airbrush built by one of the many manufacturers in the business. It doesn't look like a Paasche, but it could be a Badger, Aztek or Devilbus.

You should have gotten some instructions with the kit. Follow them closely. You can use any paint with your brush. Thin it to the consistency of milk. Start by buying some acrylics from either a hobby shop or crafts store. Michael's has a nice selection. Thin them with either water or alcohol.

Remember that with any internal mix airbrush cleaning is vital. When you are done with it, put on a bottle with some thinner in it. Spray this through the gun until it runs clear.

  18. I have the Paasche Double Action Airbrush and right now is probably NOT a good time to ask me what I think of it. I have been trying to paint the interior pieces of my Daytona the past 3 nights and have had rotten luck with the airbrush. I have spent more time taking the airbrush apart and trying to clean it than I have actually painting and it still is not working the way it should. The airbrush simply doesn't want to spray the paint.

I have owned this tool since 1990 and have always been meticulous about cleaning this thing after every paint job. It was always completely dismantled and cleaned thoroughly, yet now it won't even spreay plain thinner through the gun.

I do like the dual action feature of my airbrush though, when it IS working. I like having the ability of controlling the amount of paint I apply as well as the size of the pattern. For whatever reason, I guess my current airbrush is no longer useable so now I'm looking at having to invest in another unit myself. I'm not happy about that prospect either at this point in time as money is already tight enough in my household.

The packing gland is probably too loose and is allowing paint to get up into the air side of the gun. Use a small screwdriver to tighten it (check your instructions). You'll probably have to clean the air valve.
