  1. Thanks everyone for the words of confidence! I've been puttin together the "Surprise Guest" as mentioned earlier and the build is going smoothly. More on that build later I've been taking progress pics of that along the way so when it's done I plan on doin a quick workbench start to finish thread on that also.

  2. I've been in contact with some club members who aren't as secretive as the rest are. One member is building a Roman Chariot themed beetle bus with the back opened up and the driver stands up. No Pics of that but I did make a house visit to see his progress and if he can get it built it will be killer. Also here's an earlier pic I posted and his progress since.

It's coming along nicely I think,  I'm digging the dragster theme.

  3. The club meeting is the last Saturday of every month. This up-coming club challange is Anything you can/want to do with the Beetle bus. We usually agree on the club challange two months ahead, that gives you enough time to plan and execute a project.

Two cases of these kits were ordered (24 kits) amongst our club members so I'm hopeful that everyone who has atleast 2 kits are going to show up with something exciting. With all the interest that I've had here with this kit I am for sure going to post all of the challange pics here. The club meeting is August 27.

I try to find time to build something in between as a "Surprise Guest" to the club meeting  each month for added "Shock value" it keeps you on your toes so to speak.  The club events are a great way to stay sharp with the hobby, I recommend everybody joining a club.

Oh and BTW, the next club challange theme is going to be Hot-Wheels. Build your 1/24 1/25 model to look like a hot wheels car. I'm gearing up for that now!

  4. Welcome to the site! Good luck on the surgery. It seems you like the cop cars. I woke up yesterday thinking I would like to build a 12th scale cop car, but there's not many options for 4door based 12th scale model. Maybe a 57 chevy 4door hardtop cop car? That's about it though.. I can't wait for the re- issue release of the Squad rod l'm thinking I'd like to build one as box art like the one you have.

  5. I've been busy chipping away at the Club challange. I'm in earily stage final assembly now. I thought I'd update everyone on my progress. It's a wrap... "SUNKEN TREASURE" is what I've named the project. I went for the Nautical theme.  The sank ship look. I desided to foil the window frame so it would resemble that of a boat.

The engine is a hemi with a "Latham" blower. I kept the interior kinda simple because with the blue windows, It's hard to see the inside.  I painted it silver and two toned the seats with blue flocking just to break it up.

It's been a fun little project for me. Anyway here are some photos, thanks for looking!

  6. Just a quick update on the "Dar Dar" bus lol!

One thing l forgot to mention in this thread was the chassis used on this project.  AMT 1925 model T ford #31223. I've never built that kit but it offers alot of good parts for kit bashing.

I spent about 6 hours on getting the decals start to finish (designed, printed, and applied) but now that they are on I'm satisfied how they turned out.

I painted the frame and engine so I could visualize my thought process. Mocked up it looks just as I interpreted so at least I'm on the right track.

I hope all my fellow club members are gettin along as well as I am. I'm starting to relax now and enjoy the rest of the build.

This pic is of some left over decals as a sort of sneak peek of what I did to the body. I've got to clear coat and BMF... and then I'll post pics of that next time!

  7. Did some final wetsanding to get rid of some pin holes and WaLa!  bodywork completed  the chop was so clean and accurate that I only used 2 coats of liquid surface build primer! No filler... I also laid down a coat of white now to let that dry and on to the decals.

  8. I thought they were from the thunderbolt also, So I compared them to one from that kit and it's bigger. Also not molded in burgundy like the original thunderbolts were. This wheel is molded in redish-orange. Yes I think they look like the old Radir rims from the 60's. Did Rocket make them? I only have one of them is the bad thing and it appears to be the front. I'd love to see the rear wheels and the kit they came in...

  9. I just got some Intel on some of my club members work in progress, and I can see that it seems like every body is chopping this kit up. Kinda hard to see what direction the "blue tape pic" is goin? I'm told that the body is gettin sectioned and narrowed. I'm gettin excited to see everyone else's builds now!

Oh, and I think I got a clear veiw on where my build is headed, more on that soon I promise.

  10. I did a quick build on this little Schwinn bike to get it off my bench. It builds up simple with only 7 parts. I tried to give it redline tires but it ended up looking more like red wheels instead. Oh well, I used a green sharpie for the "Pea picker" look of that era. The steering works and the wheels turn. I thought it would look good on the back of a pick up I want to build later.

  11. Earlier I had a phone call from my buddy who did the chop and he's been working on some other ideas he had for the beetle bus. He sent this pic to me. He's actually had two cases of these kits come to his house in the past month (12 kits per case) and he's thinking about ordering another case. Lol!  Oh and FYI if you buy one and happen to "Katch the Kat" a little game AMT likes to play sometimes where kits are Molded in Clear metallic colors, this one is Apple green.
