I bought and built Modelhaus’ resin ‘67 Grand Prix convertible about the time they were shutting down. It was a very nice kit of my all time favorite Pontiac. It was only a curbside, so no engine. And off the top of my head, I don’t recall any fender engine badging. But, knowing the quality of the model, if the real car had engine badging on the front fender, than Modelhaus version did too. And I’m willing to bet that badging read “428.”

Lucky you to build that gem!

Thanks for the story. Lucky you to have that!

Great builds !  love your engine work !!

Fantastic builds. Sure wish that a 63 Pontiac Super Duty 421 Catalina was available for you to build! Can't believe the kit makers have overlooked those championship winning beasts. Would like to see how you could make it pop!

When Amt released this kit I was pretty excited  . I thought it was the original AMT rabbit as the box art was so close . I received this kit as a birthday gift when I actually saw the box and opened it up I was a little disappointed.  Not because this kit is bad but rather it wasn't what I thought it was . Honestly the subaru brat , vw scirocco , Meyers Manx etc . The OG rabbit seemed a logical expectation .  I wanted the amt kit  to build a desert racer based on the hot wheels Hare Splitter . That's still the plan but this kit became the rough draft and a slump buster and a reason to try something new .

This is going to be good. The fender flares are super. How did you make the flares?

Doing a replica build of a Friend's 66 Toronado that was his Father's and is restoring.  I accumulated some 70 Toronado kits and 66 promos some time before I met this guy!  Such a cool land yacht!

Main thing was cutting open the hood.

Holy Cow. I was 17 when my parents got their first brand new 1968 Toro. The whole family loved it and I was allowed to drive it with permission. Haven't found a model of the 1968. I'll be watching your 1966 build. Super!

  6. Love the 421 powered 65 2+2. I built it years ago in the color Mayfair Maize light yellow but forgot to do the chrome trim like you completed. I better dig it out and get busy. Thanks for showing your machine.

  7. Thanks for this WIP. Fantastic so far! Remembering the first time I saw a picture of a 33 Willy's and thought it was the ugliest car on the planet.

No more! Nothing like them. Seriously funky. I built the Stones Wood and Big John Gasser's when I was a kid in the early 60's but had know idea this car existed. Will follow this.

  8. First post.HUGE 60's full size Pontiac fan.Have built the 65 2+2 and have the 61 and 62 Catalina's in the wait.If you want to depict them as having the fantastic 421 engines, don't forget to get the photo etch 421 fender emblems for your 63 and 64 cars!

The only place that I know for these is Model Car Garage in Florida.Beware of their BIG mistake. They did not realize that the driver's and passenger side emblems differ.End result is you get 2 of only one side of the car.I will have to display mine on one side only on my shelf!
