    Hey Scott - Oldmopars

Nice looking grille.  Is there somewhere others can see more information on these parts?  And as long as you are asking about "upgrades", how common is the fuel tank in the photo above and would it be something that could be done and made available?  Just wondering.

    Thanks

    Keith

Well, if you can get me more information on it, I can model something up. I have never seen one. So, More pictures and dimensions would really help.

Unfortunately I don’t have a website but you can either message me here or find me on Facebook or instagram: Andy Lesiak

Thank you. BTW, as a designer myself, I am really enjoying seeing the stuff you are offering. Top notch stuff. I truly understand the amount of time and skill that it takes to create these works of art. It is great to have you making these things for the community.

The international 4300 is being re released. For some reason I was thinking that would be a donor instead of the 4070. A 9300 hood would be nice for that kit or 9400i

Are those hoods still available from Models by Dave? I know he offered them at one time, but not sure if they are still offered.

If they are no longer available, it may be a possibility that I can work on them.

Any possibility of buying the file? 🤔

I am going to "Not at this time". If we go ahead and release this as a resin body, the file will not be available because then it could be printed by others and ruin the sales of the bodies. If, however we decide that the body is not something we want to print and sell, then I will sell the file so you can print it yourself.

There is a huge investment of time in making these bodies, we need to decide how best to re-coup that investment.

  5. As you may know I created the files for the W-1000 and the W9000 Ford trucks sold by Texas 3D Customs. Well, I have been working on another project and wanted to see if I should keep working on it or invest my energy in something else.

The cab I have been working on is a 1997-98ish 9800 Eagle. Full sleeper version. I still need to finish the interior and a few details here and there. I know there has never been a kit of this, and I don't think there has ever been a resin, cast or otherwise.

    Thoughts?

  6. I wish I had a better area for working at. My current hobby area is my office/guest room. I no longer work from home, so the computer is gone. However my bench is an Oak desk. While comfortable, it is too deep and in front of a window. This means I can't have a nice tall tool rack at the back. I can't reach it and it would block the window. The window also causes issues as the light is coming in at the wrong angle making it hard to see some times. The window faces west, so even with the AC on, the desert sun relly beats in and warms things up if I don't keep the drapes pulled.

The second issue is that this desk is also where 2 of my 3D printers sit. One on the left, one on the right. Compound the problem with me traveling every week out of town, and I really fight to get anything done.

    Open to suggestions.

Currently on the bench is an 1/8 scale 3D printed Toyota Land Cruiser RC truck. 3D printed body, aluminum axles and drive train. A model kit of sorts.

Here is the link to one thread.

I see you and I were all over it then.

I wonder if Scott Solomon aka "Old Mopars" has had any luck with the parts?

To be honest, I have been so busy on other projects I have just forgotten about it. My issue with it was that it printed, and looked good, but after it cured it curled like a potato chip. I think I got it too thin. I ran it by Charles at Texas 3D Customs, but while I am sure he could unlock the secret, he is also very very busy.

Let me take another look at it.

Very nice work! I've been working in CAD for about 2 years and haven't done an engine with that detail. Kudos!

Thanks, it is kind of funny, this CAD thing has exploded a bit on me. It started just over a year ago with tinkering for my own projects, and now my designs are being sold by one of the best 3D printers in the 3D printed model parts field.

My W1000 cab has done really well and the I suspect the W9000/Blue Mule will also do well. I have done many engines and other parts too.

It has taken over so much, I haven't  ad a lot of time for actual models.

  9. I like this idea, Its a solar turntable from Amazon. The size is a bit small, but a plexiglass plate the size of your model could set on top nicely. This way your model rotates and you don't need to use batteries. They are also cheap.

I am getting one to use inside a 3D printer curing station, but they could be used to display a car also.

  10. I know this thread is old, but I have 3 questions.

    1. Most or all of the things I have seen done with this chrome powder technique have been very smooth, like bumpers or spoons. How well does it work on things like a wheel, supercharger, dash, etc. Things with groves, crack, deep contours?

    2. Anyone figured out how to thin the base and airbrush it? Seems for smaller parts or not smooth parts this would be key.

    3. Any links to a go-to brand that works good?

I really like this idea, and it seems to work really well. I also like that it seems to give a more real chrome look, less cheap toy looking.

Now that it has been a year+ I am hoping for some more feed back.

That said, I’d love to see a late ‘up’s- early 70’s W series, the version before the Louisville grille.  AITM had both the Crackerbox GMC and the Dodge, but they’re gone, at least for the foreseeable future.

This W9000 cab is currently in work. The cab used on the Blue Mule. It is a lot of work to get it right and there is a lack of good documentation with dimensions. I am getting close, but it may still be a little bit before it is right and ready to go.

The Dodge and GMC will be done in the near future.

There are a lot of different kinds of frameless dumps. Gary Wallace used to offer some, but sadly, he is no longer with us. The Fruehauf kit can be converted into one with some work. You can make a pretty nice one by putting two together. Scratch building is always an option as well. 3d printing might be an option as well. Don’t forget to pin the fifth wheel on the truck when you build one.

3D printing one is an option, but only cost effective if you print it yourself. The W1000 cab I designed is being sold for $100 and that is a great price. A complete resin dump trailer would be $300+. It’s a lot of work, a ton of resin and would require a very, very large printer to do it as one piece.
FDM is also a possibility, but it too would not be cheap. Just the bed could take 24-36 hours to print.

In this case, scratch building is likely your best bet.
