  1. Here is the progress made so far on the bodywork of the Jaguars. All paint was removed, to my surprise, maybe I should have expected it being that these are quite a low cost model to start with. But the casts were of very poor quality, with a lot of pit holes. The original paint was so thick that these were not visible but with the paint I'm intending to use I realised a lot of filling sanding was going to be needed. I have got to the point where I am happy with this now, and should take primer pretty well. I have also sanded off the ugly door handle mounts. and filled these, The next step is now to get all the body parts primed, so I can show in the next update the parts all painted. Thanks Chris www.wardsmodelbuilder.com wardsmodelbuilder@outlook.com
  2. Hello all, Here is my thread for my latest commission project. This is going to be converting three Bburago 1/18 Jaguar E-Types to customers specific race versions, each covering the racing life of the car. Here is the original car, as raced in the 1960's and restored for the Goodwood festival. I have started by dismantling the models ready for removing the original paint. There will be some small modifications to be made, as the car raced with and without bumpers and there are a few areas of the diecast bodies that I'm not happy with so they will be reshaped to suit. I will have further updates in the coming days. Thanks Chris www.wardsmodelbuilder.com wardsmodelbuilder@outlook.com
  3. Here are some photos of my 1/72 Zvezda Mig 31b Commission build. Standard out of the box build using Vallejo, Mig and Alclad paints. Chris www.wardsmodelbuilder.com wardsmodelbuilder@outlook.com
  4. Here are a few photos of the finished model. Everything went together quite easily but I did have some issue with the windows that, to be truthful just aren't very good in this kit. Other than the windows, all the other parts fitted together very well, and the additional detail pieces such as the side number lights and windscreen clips are a nice touch (included in the kit). Turned out pretty well, for a stock build, which is all the customer wanted for this one. Thanks Chris www.wardsmodelbuilder.com wardsmodelbuilder@outlook.com
  5. This is my latest commission project, I have been asked if I could convert this 1/12 diecast model into what is known as the "bullet" bus that was used as target practise as it sat abandoned out in the desert. I will be trying to recreate the model to a similar condition as the photo below, with the rust and old paintwork and of course all the bullet holes. I have made a start breaking the model down into smaller pieces, which have then been stripped of their original paint. The customer also wants the roof windows cut out, so I will now make a start on those and start drilling the holes prior to priming everything ready for paint. 6. Here is what will probably be the last update before this one is finished. The body has now been clear coated and the decals have held up very well with no damage. It has been drying for over a week so should be ready for sanding out the imperfections now. The customer decided he wanted something added to busy up the interior a little, so I have added a little wiring and plumbing bits. I think this will add a nice finish to the model, which has turned out to be a very enjoyable build. The kit isn't as polished as a Studio 27 kit however it still makes a very solid model. Once the bodywork is sanded and polished I will finish up by adding the exterior fittings, and bringing the two halves together. Chris http://www.wardsmodelbuilder.com wardsmodelbuilder@outlook.com
  7. An update on the progress, After a lot of sanding and priming I was finally happy with the quality of the bodywork. The body panels on this kit were not either smooth of level but once that was sorted the red went on very well, and makes the effort worth it. Once that was fully dried I was able to mask off for the lower half black sections. and paint them black, I have now added all the bodywork decals as the lacquer on this build is going over them. So far, so good. I have also been working on the interior which I will cover in the next update whilst the clear on the body is drying. Thanks Chris www.wardsmodelbuilder.com wardsmodelbuilder@outlook.com
  8. Here is my latest commission project, this one is a 1/18 scale Tron Ferrari 512 BB 1978 LeMans resin kit. It is going to be built straight out of the box as the customer doesn't want any extra detail work adding. With it being a curbside body there isn't much that could be added anyway other then maybe some extra work around the dash and seats. The resin mould is pretty good, i've seen better but after a little bit of tidying up its just about ready for paint. As is pretty standard with my builds I will be using the Zero paints brand on this build. Everything else is pretty standard for a multimedia kit, parts have a good level of detail on them and after some cleaning up should produce a nice model. Thanks Chris http://www.wardsmodelbuilder.com wardsmodelbuilder@outlook.com
  9. Here is the progress so far on the little Beetle. Nothing major wrong with the body out of the box, just a couple of mould lines which were easily removed. Primed, painted and a little bare metal foil added to the side features and then cleared in 2k. I will now start to work on the chassis and engine. Thanks Chris http://www.wardsmodelbuilder.com wardsmodelbuilder@outlook.com
  10. I finally have a little time from commission work to start a little side project. After searching my stash I decided to go for this Beetle, which should be quick and simple. Its going to be painted with zero paints and cleared in 2k, with a beige interior. Might be a strange combination but its just paints I have lying around and I think the chrome on the body panels will look good against a dark blue. Its going to be a completely box stock build. Not looking for anything complicated. I have made a start on the body, sanding the seam lines out and given it a first coat of primer. to be continued..... 11. Here's a couple of photos of two diecast models I have recently stripped and repainted to match the customers original race cars. Chris http://www.wardsmodelbuilder.com wardsmodelbuilder@outlook.com
  12. a couple of photos of the finished paint. Chris www.wardsmodelbuilder.com wardsmodelbuilder@outlook.com
  13. Here are a few photos of a recent project. Its a repaint on a 1/8 McLaren MP4-12C. I was asked to respray it as there was some damage on the front wing which after repair was going to be unable to colour match just the wing. The paint is zero paints graphite grey which is very similar to the colour the car started in. On top of that I used zero paints 2k diamond pack. Now I just need to figure out how it all goes back together!!!! I will post some photo when complete. Chris http://www.wardsmodelbuilder.com wardsmodelbuilder@outlook.com
  14. A little progress on the 1/8 DeAgostini Porsche 911 conversion. I have now epoxy glued the resin wheel arches onto the metal body. and started the process of blending them into the body shape which filler and sanding. More to follow soon. Chris www.wardsmodelbuilder.com wardsmodelbuilder@outlook.com
  15. Here are some photos of the finished paint on the Mustang. Chris www.wardsmodelbuilder.com wardsmodelbuilder@outlook.com
  16. My next commision build is going to be a 1/8 DeAgostini Porsche 911 conversion to a RSR wide wheel arches by m-tec, painted in zero paints Gulf Orange. There will be a couple of other modifications during the build, such as cutting out the number plate in the front bumper but I will come to those later in the build. This is going to be a complete build not just paint work as in my Mustang thread. I have already stripped the original paint off the body work, a little clean up still to be done. Next step is the add the resin wheel arches and then prime everything. Thanks Chris www.wardsmodelbuilder.com wardsmodelbuilder@outlook.com
  17. The body has now been painted in the Zero Paints Candy Purple, just need to add the stripes that will be silver, then a final clear coat and it will be finished. Thanks Chris http://www.wardsmodelbuilder.com wardsmodelbuilder@outlook.com
  18. Here are all the pieces off the body that are now painted in the Candy Purple. Still needs the clear coat to be added after a light sand. Hopefully will have the main body section fully sprayed in the next few days. Chris www.wardsmodelbuilder.com wardsmodelbuilder@outlook.com
  19. The body has now been painted with zero paints fine metallic silver which is the base coat for the candy Purple which will follow next. Chris www.wardsmodelbuilder.com wardsmodelbuilder@outlook.com
  20. Here is another customer build project, this is the Roland Ratzenberger Simtek S941 from 1994. Standard build straight out of the box, using Zero Paints Simtek purple and Black. Just the seatbelts are a add ons. Thanks Chris http://www.wardsmodelbuilder.com wardsmodelbuilder@outlook.com
  21. Here is the body now primed and ready for the first base coat of fine metallic silver. Chris www.wardsmodelbuilder.com wardsmodelbuilder@outlook.com
  22. You are correct it is the DeAgostini model. I have a client that collects these, he has many all complete. I will be doing the Mercedes 300SL next so look out for that when I start posting it. I use a varnish and paint remover that I can by here in the UK from our local hardware store. Just brush it on and after a few hours wash it off along with the old paint.
  23. Body pieces have now dismantled so they are easier to work with and stripped of the original paint. Other than a couple of little marks the metal body is in good condition so I can now move on to primer. Chris http://www.wardsmodelbuilder.com wardsmodelbuilder@outlook.com
  24. Here is my next project, I have been asked to strip and repaint a 1/8 scale Ford mustang diecast shell. It will be repainted in zero paints Candy Purple over a fine metallic silver, and will be finished with the stripes redone in silver. Thanks Chris www.wardsmodelbuilder.com wardsmodelbuilder@outlook.com
