, I noticed one of the Baldwin Motion '70 Chevelle on eBay the other day.

It just arrived .... The guys in the shop are giving it the "once over" to make sure it's good , lol !

Anyone with a production kit handy that can tell me if the air cleaner got engraved mesh ? It's just smooth and plain on this one .

You should ask the seller for a note indicating the built model came from a former Revell employee-- assuming who I think the seller is related to is, in fact, the person she is related to. Look back at the many review topics and you'll see many other built up test shots molded in this same grey color, so I would feel very confident they are what they are represented to be. Revell has been using grey plastic for test shots for quite a while:

I specifically asked her if she was related to the Revell engineer  bearing a similar name.  She had a very sly reply ,  and I took it as confirmation .  She also stated when I asked her for more test shots that she did have more to list ....  Among other Revell items ....

Dale, I've run into this scale credibility problem before and it has a lot to do with how we view things in real life as distinct from scale.  Let me give an example.

Back in the day it would not be uncommon for someone to tow a 57 Chevy racecar with a 57 Chevy street car. If you grab two AMT 57 Chevies and put one on a trailer being towed behind the other , it will look ridiculous.  And yet, it is correct. Its just that in real life, we would rarely take in the whole scene the way we do in scale.

I'm going to focus on building up the trailer first , then I'll tackle the pull vehicle and finally the diorama base . I'd really like to do a 60's period camping scene , and I haven't completely closed off the idea of the SD as a tow unit , but I'll have to let my eyes be the final determing factor . I don't have much other in the stash that would mesh well as a tow vehicle .

At any rate .... Color one is applied , the chassis is painted ..... I'm going to bed ... Shops closed ....

It looks like someone with an eBay user ID (cynthirowlet0) very close to former Revell Senior Engineer Ron Rowlett is selling some built Revell model test shots, and presumably, is the same selling from which Jerry purchased his Model A:

I ended up winning the 70 chevelle auction ..... Just hope these are real deal test shots and not good fakes ...

In defense of collectors, I am one, and I'm happy to see re-issues of them all! Originals will always be originals and collectible. I'd never sell a rare unbuilt kit to be built, the value to me isn't in the money, it's the fact that they can bring back fond memories, and they're just so cool to see! I love building and there are so many great kits available at regular prices to be built, chopped, cut up, kit bashed, and more! As a collector, I am NOT a speculator, so I hope I am not killing the hobby!

I'm torn on this. I have a few kits in my collection that I will probably never build. But if I was to sell them I don't think it would bother me if I knew they were going to be built .  After all, isn't that the entire purpose of a model kit?  In all honesty I think I would rather give them to a builder than sell to someone who is just going to let them sit on a shelf ..

I wanted an unbuilt '63 impala kit for 20 years when ERTL released the Prestige kit for $14 in 1987 . $200 originals tanked to $50. I was happy to get a kit.

You've got a few years on me ....  When I wanted one the prestige kits were starting to skyrocket - $75, 100$  .... Then they released the teal box art version and suddenly I could get them for 10$ ...the screams of angry hoarders could be heard from the rooftops...   The kits they bought thinking that they had a retirement fund suddenly tanked...

I'll say again , speculators are killing the hobby .. It's one thing to make a dollar if you are a real hobbyist  , it's another to only buy to sit on them waiting to strike that unsuspecting builder .... And I understand there's a finite number of kits , and every built one is one less unbuilt "box queen" , but we have to come together to not buy from the speculators who only want a fast buck on our backs ...

I like your ideas on this build. As for the scale of the Resin bodied '60 Sedan Delivery, this is based on the old Monogram kit of a sedan Delivery with a Chopped Top. I think if you take the top issue into account the scales aren't that far off really. The original Monogram kit was based on a make believe Hot Rod / Custom and the basic proportions of the body were close but not exact. A personal experience that may or may not help. I rented a very similar Scotsman brand Trailer for a vacation and towed it behind my stock height '68 Chevrolet full size car. Looking out the rear window my view was of the lower edge of the window on the trailer and most of the middle of the trailer window. This may give you an idea as to the size differences between the Sedan Delivery and the trailer.

Pretty sure the body was based on the recent monogram 60 , as all of the moldings and parts are direct fit including the glass .
