I finished mocking up these differentials that I am going to cast. My plan is to make a two piece mold that I can drop a piece of aluminum tube into (plugged with modelling clay) and cast the diff around it. The aluminum tube will be trimmed back to a minimum width after casting. I can then slide a piece of .156 styrene tube inside the aluminum tube to make any width axle housing I need. I can also slide a piece of wire coat hanger inside the the styrene tube for a solid axle shaft. For a front end the knuckles will mount on the outer ends of the .156 tube. Just trying to minimize my efforts on future projects.🤔

    That's a great idea.

  2. Dominion Energy. Our power has been out for 3 days due to an ice storm. That's not Dominion's fault, so that's not why they irked me. What irked me is that their outage status update showed that our power would be restored today only for them to change it to tomorrow. This happened about an hour before the estimated time of restoration that they gave for today. I know these things happen but it's still a kick in the stomach.

The Ballad of Buster Scruggs (Netflix): An anthology of several Western stories. There are a few light moments but all things considered not a "happy" movie. Only one of the stories has what I'd call a "happy ending." Kinda interesting, but I don't think I'd watch it again.

Dunkirk (HBOMax): This is also NOT a happy-fun feel-good movie. Desperation is in every frame. I can't recall a single light moment in the whole thing. A good movie, but not a fun one by any means.

We saw Dunkirk on an IMAX screen. The theater was packed and completely silent from beginning to end.

Both of them (C&D and R&T) are huge disappointments in their new 'visionnages.'

But honestly, I don't think they care. They have no interest in the auto-philes that have been their bread and butter. They both seem to be striving to appeal to the nuevo-riche youngsters who grew up on video games and have no real world experience or appreciation for real world . . . anything.

    🌵😎

They seem to be turning into "lifestyle" magazines. I guess there is no money in pursuing enthusiasts anymore.

  5. This is Jasper. He is supervising me as I work on my wife's car.

I wanted to go to my HL to check out their Createx prices compared to spraygunner.com, and my wife wanted to go too, since we needed to drop something off at the UPS store close by. I ended up grabbing the Foose Impala for a project down the road, lucked into a can of Model Master Sublime Green Lacquer for a different project, and the wife picked out the Pearlized Purple and Transparent Deep Red. I ended up ordering my Reducer, Retarder, Balancing Clear, Gloss Clear and a couple of other Pearlized colors from spraygunner.com.

Nice buys. I use spraygunner for all of my Createx paints. They have great prices and great service.

Just watched The Little Things, brand new movie in theaters today and also streaming on HBO MAX for the next month or so. Pretty good, very entertaining with a couple twists at the end, which are almost always a good thing. It's set in the early '90s so there are quite a few interesting old cars. One of the "star cars" is a minty '68-'72 Nova, possibly a '69 in Frost Green. Very cool.

The wife and I watched that today. We enjoyed it very much.

Using a trick that Mark D. Jones does, magnets for sub assemblies, for the engine to transaxle.  The Hobby Design engine is very detailed, but it's a bit rough because of early 3D printing resolution.  It came with a photo-etch clutch assembly which I'm not using on this project, might have a diorama that could work.  Seeing what others are going to race with, I'm hoping the weather will really suck.  ?

    That engine looks great.

If you aren't already using, I highly recommend this for straight up plastic to plastic. Best stuff there is.

That's what I will be using for my final assembly of bare plastic. I was trying tacky glue because I haven't had good luck using tape to temporarily hold parts together. It tends to stick to my fingers better than plastic. Of course, I haven't tried my Tamiya tape yet.

  10. Well, the USPS finally released my package from Model Builder's Warehouse after holding it for 3 weeks. I know, first world problems.

Anyway, on the left and right we have a Ford coyote 5.0 and Recaro seats from Clearly Scale. In the middle is a set of 15" Minilites with tires from Fireball Model Works. It all looks like quality parts. This was my first order from Model Builder's Warehouse and I am highly satisfied.
