TO ALL THE FOLKS WHOM I'VE COMPLETED TRADES ON THIS FORUM (You know Who you are).

I've been on this forum for only 2 years and have met and traded with some of the most honest and upfront bunch of guys I have ever met. I haven't gotten burned once and have always gotten what was promised or sometimes even BETTER than what was promised!

You guys all deserve a big Thank You, and I make a personal note of you guys, proven to have the best character, so I know who to trust and take care of in the future.

    My sincerest accolades to you!

I have to agree with you 100% I've only been a member here since December and have traded with several people here with no issues, great communication and always what I wanted. I have to extend those accolades as well, it's very much deserved....

    Found these:

Pictures are dated Jan 2000.  Can't believe it's been 20 years already since this was built!

I need to take new pictures of this build.  The Testors enamel paint job is still in good shape but a light polish may be needed.

    Thanks,

Nice!!! awesome build, I hope mine looks close to that's B)

Luckily, that kit contains the parts for both the ‘53 and ‘54 Corvette!??

I’m a huge fan of the first 3 Corvettes. I’ll be looking forward to this build!

I’m looking forward to this one too.... should be a fun build...

    Cool!

I did a black '54 with red interior years ago after seeing a beautiful gorgeous one on the freeway.

I’d like to see your build as well... this generation of the Vette really does look beautiful in black.....

  4. Ok so yes I know it is actually a 53 but I never liked the first generation of Vette in white but that was the only color it came in in 53. So I did some research and found the only mechanical difference between 53 and 54 was half way though 54 they changed the air breathers so the first half of 54 there was no changes other than colors. 53 came white with a red interior and black top, 54 was available Pennant Blue with a Tan interior (which accounted for 16% of the production models made that year), Sportsman Red with a Red Interior (which accounted for a mere 4% of the production models), Polo White with a Red Interior (which accounted for about 80% of the production models) and Black with Red Interior – accounted for as few as six cars and all of the 54 models came with a tan top. So this is now a 54.... Now some cure time then polishing :)

You can put the Pledge on before or after the decals.  The only word of caution is if you intend to use a decal setting solution.  The decal setting solution can dissolve or cloud the Future.

I agree, if you want to use the pledge I would use it after as a sealer But it is totally preference unless your using a setting fluid....

I've been using Duplicolor Perfect Match clear over Auto Air water based paint, and it's worked very well. It gets really hard and polishes nicely. It works best for me if I do light coats. When I do wet coats it gets bubbles in it that pop and turn into pits. That may be just me, but that's my experience.

Also, check out this guy, he seems to have it down:

Interesting that he uses washer fluid to reduce it, I wonder why....

There is no right answer, we are all individuals with different perspectives!

Personally I am a one at a time guy.  I like to feel the model as if it's a 1:1.  I sit back and sweat the small details and make sure I am okay with the process as art. I've had a dozen sets of tire and wheels on it. I've spoon tested a number of different shades of the same color.  Once it's done, I place the model in the place of honor (in my den up next to the big screen TV) so I can revel in the final product.  I have to "feel" the model, like a car I'd want to own in 1:1.  I dunno, that's just me.

Lately I've had time on my hands so I've been finishing up models that have long been on my unfinished model shelf.  At a pace where I want to slow it down to process it all!   It's like that models don't sit in that place of honor next to the big screen long enough for me to fully enjoy them!

I know guys who will build a load of models at the same time, spray four of them the same color until the can runs out.  It almost seems like they are assembling puzzles,  they don't add details or wire engines. I don't get that. But it's not me.

Note that I'm not downing anyone, just trying to understand the process and motivation.

    What do you think?

Definitely no right answer, I will paint 3 or 4 cars at a time but each one will be a different color picked for that kit, I only reuse a color if I happen to have something I think it will look good on, every one of the 8 on my desk are a different color.

I don't get that assembling a puzzle thing either each one for me is it's own and these days really enjoy doing OEM cars that are not modified but I have start adding plug wires and such again

Im still in the learning curve on how to get a high gloss with the Minwax but i think its doable

Nice, Looks good, I wonder if you could polish that like you do car paint....

Only 8 a time? You need a bigger workbench. Lol

Actually, I've resigned myself to the fact that the fun is in the building, not the end count that matters. Building is the stress valve that I need, required deadlines to complete them just makes it another job.

Besides, once they're finished and displayed, they invariably get broken and then they go back in a box again anyway. Vicious cycle.

I agree I never set a time line, thats why they are in cases while I work on them so they dont get dusting when they sit. That way when I have time I can work on them for hours and not get board waiting for stuff to dry...

I too have a load of craft paint and have found a way to do almost all my Finnish work with them.

I havent used the dupli color so cant help you there

I have yet to put a contest worthy paint job on my work but im not really interested at this time in putting in the effort to do so but i have learned to do an acceptable to me job for the shelf sitters i build.Heres the stuff i use, distilled water is the other ingredient not shown to make a home brew reducer. For me 30% reducer to the craft paints sprays well in my neo AB.

The Minwax i reduce with straight distilled water at same %

Interesting, post a pic of a painted kit I'm curious how it looks.... I want to use the dupli-color to get the shine and I know they have used water based color on cars so it's not a stretch to think it would work...

I am currently working on 4 models. Impatience is my worst enemy. I find if I have multiples on the go, I can leave one alone while things dry. Or I can set it aside and reflect on what I want to do.

That was why I started doing it mostly so I could let things dry that way I could sit there for hours working on them with never having to stop.....

Looking good, that color works on it. I have one in the same shade....

It definitely is a great color for it, I was very happy with the outcome
