  1. I thought it was funny someone else on this forum was building the same old Monogram kit so this post isn't meant to hijack that forum member's thread. I'm not making the car to be exactly like the kit's instructions. I'm making a 1/24 replica of my 85 C4. That being said, you will notice different paint schemes, etc. that deviate from the stock look. So, here are the beginning stages. I like to paint whatever I can off the trees so I don't have to do touch ups. The small stuff that's easily lost or needs detailing, I leave on. For those that are also building this kit, you may notice the two toned interior (the back half is black). That's not stock, it was how I modified my actual car, I have black carpet in the cargo bay instead of the saddle carpet I have up front. I've also painted the motor red instead of the standard GM black. I just swapped the motor in my car and painted the new motor red to match the exterior. There is way too many chrome plated parts in this kit in my opinion. There is no chrome or polished parts on an actual C4, but I know some people like bling. I did leave the valve covers and intake chrome tho even tho they are not currently polished on my car nor did they ever come that way from the factory, however, my plan when I finish dressing up the motor is to polish these 2 pieces. I figured if I don't polish the real thing, there's no harm done and these pieces are easily painted afterwards.
  2. Cool! I'll be sure to look for it and 1/48 is a good scale, it would match the Airwolf model I have.
  3. I built the MPC kit of the Judges GMC step-side when it came out. I see them still for sale on eBay on occasion.
  4. I'd like to see a better 1/25 scale of the Coyote from Hardcastle & McCormick. The one from MPC was no where near the real car, the bottom half being GT40. I'd settle for a 1/25 kit of the McLaren M6GT, the car the Coyote was modeled after, and modify that. I'd also like to see the Grumman Goose from Tales of the Gold Monkey and while there are ton of 77 Trans Am SE's from Smokey & the Bandit, there are none of the Kenworth W900 with the iconic muraled trailer. I'm sure I could probably make either of these, but it would be nice if they came in kit form.
  5. Hello! I've found this forum and I really like what I have seen so far. I've been building model cars, ships and airplanes since I was 8 and just returned to the hobby. My current projects are building a 1/25 clone of my Corvette and a 1/25 Squad 51 replica. I look forward to seeing forum members' projects and as well as sharing my own.
  6. Nice work, I look forward to seeing more of your progress. I'm in the process of building this same Monogram 85 Corvette. I'm using my own 85 C4 as my template, basically making a small clone of my actual car. I had to buy a spare kit as the original kit I purchased was an opened kit and the body was already painted and the rear glass was damaged. I noticed something between what was supposed to be 2 identical kits. There must of been an update of some sort because one kit's exhaust system had turned down exhaust tips, which is wrong for an 85 but correct for an 84. The other kit I purchased, the opened one, had the correct exhaust tips but the front y-pipe was wrong for that year, it was for an 86 & newer. Anyway, I'm kit bashing to get the needed parts I need to make my replica, I needed wheels, etc. I'm also leaving the body unpainted as my car is red and the body really is in nice shape without mold lines, etc. I'll just polish it when I'm done and yes, as someone mentioned above, C4's were not that shiny when new. I'm impressed with the engine bay and suspension detail. Having the real thing in my driveway is great for reference. I'm not a fan of the molded in taillights tho, but using Testor's metallic red taillight paint made them pop and I think it looks good. I've posted pics of my real 85 and the model 85 in "draft" form.
  7. The Ranger kit looks good, assembled anyway. I have been collecting parts to build my own replica Squad 51. I currently have the utility box and odds and ends to make a fairly accurate replica. I'm using the MPC 78 Dodge pickup for my base and have a 72 grille for it. The only parts I am still missing are the rails for the utility bed and the brackets for the side view mirrors (I have the mirror part). I can make both using Evergreen products but I was wondering if anyone sold those pieces ready made. The railing on the Ranger model are spot on, but I didn't see them listed on the Ranger website. Also, for those who have completed a replica, any tips would be appreciated. Thanks!
