  1. Interviewed for a position yesterday. The most comprehensive interview I've ever had in my short career of working for others- demonstrated how to read an analog micrometer, machine tool knowledge etc. When asked if I could run a manual lathe and read service manuals and follow instructions, I replied that I had over 400 service manuals in my shop library & had a 14x48 South Bend at my resto shop and would be more than happy to turn something out on one of their lathes if needed. The owner replied "hell no, the fact that you volunteered said enough. We have a hell of a time finding someone who can run the older manual stuff." After a tour of the facility I was offered the position. A 40% pay increase and less than 5 miles from my new place by the beach. Life's good.

  2. Been putting in applications over by the new place. It's no wonder the job market is the way it is if my scenario is like everyone else's. I've gotten quite a few interview requests. Go to set up an interview time and nothing. No call back, no confirmation, nothing. Today was the 7th time that has occured out of 11 interview requests. Just absolutely baffling! Maybe it's time to take an entry level position somewhere while I buy myself a job(start another company).

I guess I'm what they call pre-diabetic as I have bouts of hypoglycemia. If it hits seems to be early morning before breakfast or between breakfast and lunch.

If I eat too early or am late on lunch it will hit me.

It hits quick too with little warning most times!

Doctors still can't tell me what is causing it, my a1c is good and I'm never on the high side.

I've been hypoglycemic since I was a kid. I understand what you're dealing with as it happens to me too! Like in your case my doctors have never been able to determine my root cause either. I've just learned to live with it.

Just because it's old, doesn't mean it's valuable.

Being that I live about 45 minutes from Disney world, the "antique malls" here locally are just slam packed full of Disney stuff, with obscene prices. Week after week I see the same stuff sitting too. Of course I never seem to find any model kits which is the whole reason I went in in the first place!

Alot of the older stuff had value at one time. I used to collect Ford memorabilia, dealership signs, accessory stuff like touch up paint cans, Ford china that was used in the factory cafeterias, Ford World's Fair exhibit stuff, factory employee badges, etc etc pretty much anything Ford related from the 1909-1965 period. I sold off 98% of the collection when I did the first big purge in 2018. Glad I did as everything except the signs has tanked in value since then. I didn't collect it for financial return, it was a side hobby from my restoration of the real cars.. LOL

I'm seeing a similar thing now with antique furniture. I've had several pieces of original arts & crafts/Mission style furniture for sale at quite reasonable prices with no takers.

If the item in question has a bar code on the package, in general the value will drop off at some point.  Most times, the first reseller will come out ahead, but that's about it.

NASCAR diecasts are another example.  People who loaded up on those are finding out that current fans and "collectors" don't care who won some race twenty years ago.

I think that holds true with Nascar stuff in general. I see so much of that stuff at swap meets dirt cheap, with no buyers.

  6. Having a beer with an old friend. Did some work on this Model A Woody about a year before this pic was taken. Owner passed on and the family put the car up for auction. Absolutely no room in a Model A Woody wagon for a bigger guy such as myself.

  7. I hope the Merritt Island store has more of those Falcon Rancheros, I have business over that way Wednesday morning!

As an aside, I looked at the dates on the three kits I got Sunday. They all date from 2021. Makes you wonder if they really have been sitting somewhere all this time. It really amazes me Round 2 keeps popping out reissues of reissues, how many times has the '50 Ford convertible or '34 Ford Pickup, etc etc been reissued? You'd think they would reach market saturation at some point. Maybe they have and that's why Ollie's is getting them. It will be interesting to see what they put out around Christmas time.

Also, I believe the Revell snap kits of the stock version 63 have them. If you are building a shelf model, I would just build the entire snap kit. The body just looks a lot more accurate.

I second this. I've built a couple of the snap kits and they are quite nice. Plentiful too, I got mine at model shows for $5 each.

  9. I was fortunate that my Dad was into building as was my grandfather who lived next door. My grandfather was by all definition of the term a Master Modeler.

The first car kit that I remember buying with my own money was the old Pyro/Lindberg 1/32 1934 Ford. I was 6 or 7. The first kit I got for a gift around that same age was the old Entex Model A Tudor meant to be a joint project between me & my dad to match his 1:1 Tudor Sedan. I'd love to find another one of these kits in this boxing!

The third pic is of me & the old man in his Model A with a Model A model in my hand during a Christmas parade.

  10. Took a load of stuff over to my other place on the coast early this morning. After the offload, I stopped at the Waffle House for breakfast. While waiting for groceries, I checked my email- I have a buyer for the rest of my C1 & C2 Corvette parts. That was a major hassle solved as I'm not moving 4 speeds, fiberglass parts, etc. The manager at the Waffle House comp'ed my meal because "you're in here all the time".

Just one of those rare days where everything goes smoothly!

  11. I have knee issues, one of which is arthritis that is progressing faster than I care to admit. You've gotten some good advice in this thread.

Part of the reason I'm moving to the coast is to be able to go for a swim whenever I can. The saltwater in the ocean has tremendous properties that are desirable to the human body. Granted not everyone can do this, but it's worth posting.
