Far out man! LOL That is awesome.

Finished the bottom of the chassis, and just have some touch up here, and there on the interior. I have used white paint on the raised white letters of the tires when I was a kid, but the paint never seemed to dry. Is there a product I can find at Hobby Lobby, or Walmart that with do the job, but dry?

This is our early 2009 Pontiac G8 GT. Powered by an all-aluminum 361 hp 6.0 V8, and 6 speed auto. This is the last RWD V8 powered Pontiac built.

I got some work done last night. Got the chassis painted, and somewhat together. Still have to install some items before I glue down the cage and finish it. Kit was missing the heads, and valve covers, so I pulled those items from the old pro Nova that was converted to a Pontiac Ventura. I was not sure on interior color. I would have assumed it had been painted some color. I decided to go with gold floor with gloss black cage.

I need the blazer, and the golden eagle. I had the exact Golden eagle pictured with a 304 v8, and I had a couple M1009 military blazers, so having one of each will be a must. Oh dear, I just promised my wife I had bought my last model. LOL

I was thinking more about protecting the decals over time more than accuracy. Thank you.

Well after 49 years I am 2 steps further than I was with both colors, and decals applied. Now I am debating on if I should, or should not clear it again. I am so happy with it. I feel 6 again.

Keep the stories coming. I love to hear about drivers, and their early days from people who were there. Replacement decals came. I feel like these were the last set on the planet. Thanks to Shark for leading me to someone who had a set.

So I guess I never introduced myself. My name is Bill, and I have been building models since 1974. The first kit was a Coo Coo Marlin Monte Carlo. I was never able to finish the kit, but built hundreds of models before joining the Navy in 1986. After that I did not get back into building until recently. I started a new hobby called collecting. While similar to building, it seems to take more space, and money than building, which just takes time, and money. LOL I had three holy grails, and I possess two, and the third is on it's way. The Coo Coo Marlin Monte, the 1/8 scale 1985 Corvette, and the Revell Quicksand van. All three had evaded me and cost me dearly since they are all crazy expensive. I have 140 ish models, but these three are special to me.

I have that kit. Got it at a yard sale. the box had three cabs, and three glass, and several chevy, and gmc grills, and bumpers. One body became a donor to a crew cab 4x4 gmc, and the main truck replaced the Deserter gmc body. The 78 came with a bench seat, while the Deserter GMC came with buckets, and a ceter console, so I was able to use the bench for the back seat on the crew cab. The 78 decals were cleared, but turned out to be junk, so I hand painted it to match a mid 70s option package I saw pics of.

I saw them before I bought off ebay. Once you add them to your cart, they say they are unavailable. I did find a set of Yesterday's decals via some help on this forum, and they are on their way. Thanks for the effort.

Thank you everyone for the advice. The car will be in its own case and the decals were very expensive, so I am going to clear, then decal.

New decals were junk. Now I am on the search for a well-made set.

Can I clear over decals or should I clear it, then install the decals? Models is old with fresh paint, and decals are new.

I need to slow down. I have already surpassed how far I got 50 years ago. Paint is done. Next will be decals, and maybe a clear after. I love the stories of those who watched Clifton race.

For what I am doing, the decals will be fine. I am building it to be one of his early cars. It was dark red, and gold with no real shine to the paint. It may have turned out a little too dark, but I will get the gold on the rest of the body in a couple weeks, and see.

Thanks I got it in primer last night, and discovered the instruction sheet was wrong. It points to the back hole to mate the front, and rear chassis together, but the Monte Carlo needs the middle hole to get the wheelbase right. I am not building Nascarlo here. LOL I guess MPC wanted one chassis for all their NASCAR series.

So I am not sure what year the Coo Coo Marlin Monte Carlo model was released but it was my first model back in 1974. I never got to build it, as my brother asked my mom for it and she gave it to him. I was not happy, but it is what it is. So, this week I finally found one I was willing to pay for since they seem to fetch big bucks. I was complete minus the decals I would not have been able to use anyways. I ordered a new set of decals for it and can't wait to get started on it.

Thank you everyone. It is the first big project I have taken on since getting back into modeling last year. Next is the 4x4 system from the Firstone F150 under the coke econline van of the same era.

I have been working on this for 8 months or so. Two paint jobs later, and I think it is finished minus gluing in the extended exhaust. The frame was the biggest PIA. The rest was fairly straight forward.
