I started this 35 years ago with altering the wheel base however no one made decals for it then so the body sat in primer until I was able to stumble over a set of decals for it. The body and interior are the amt parts the chassis and 392 hemi are from the revell miss deal kit . I used a piece of window screen and a paper clip to make the grill . The simple roll bar is made from.080 styrene rod . The paint is plain old testors orange enamel although now I think the tamyia bright orange would be a better match . Until next time thanks for looking, Mike

Nice one! I love the subject matter. It's a really unique build of a car that you don't see very often. When Funny Cars looked like real cars. I also love the fact that you plundered so many kits to bring it all together. When do we get to see a group shot of your whole collection?
Thanks I’ve been really having fun building right now .The group shot would be kind of nearly impossible as there over 430 built cars wedged together on shelving in my 8 x 10 room . Maybe in nice weather I can set them up out side for a photo shoot. It would wood be pretty cool

I took this off my unfinished shelf of obscure projects and stayed with it to the finish line. A MC projects are much more challenging as the parts supply is limited to mostly old johan parts although there are some resin bodies out there to help us along. The decal selection is also kinda slim . At some point down the road I would really like to build the all red version of this car as I have a matching magazine cover for it . I’ll have to start accumulating parts for that . So here’s the parts breakdown
smh resin : bodympc Charlie allen dart F/C : chassis
johan : engine
amt 63 impala : daisy rear wheels
amt 71 mustang : wheelie bars
polar lights barracuda F/C : interior tin ( cut apart and modified) , parachute with mounting plate , slicks
mpc cougar funny cat : fuel tank
scratch built parts : window glass, front spoiler
slixx : decals
Testors paint : white and dark red enamel, amc big bad blue lacquer , wet look clear
this was a very satisfying build I’m really happy with the outcome. Until next time thanks for looking, mike

A very cool project Michael, I love a good kit bash!
Yeah me too I like to build stuff not out of the same box . I also like the way one kit can supply parts for several projects

Finally finished up the decals on the platt / Payne cars

You may want to use this as a parts donor there available at hobby and it has a ladder bar suspension Dana rear lock out hurst shifter . The hood scoop and tunnel ram will also work on a plethora of duster / demon pro stocks

Beautiful paint finish and photography can’t wait to see those firebirds

It looks great I’ve also have one of these to build that’s been sitting on my shelf for years now. Thanks for the build tips and inspiration

I have a resin body to build one of these. Is that the JoHan chassis?
I don’t think so it looks more like mpc it came with some random funny car parts I bought on eBay quite some time ago

Great build. Did you get the body from Speed City Resin?
No it’s from smh . Speed city makes nice stuff but it’s all listed as out of stock at least last time I checked their website

Same here...i want it.
I sent Chris Walsh a picture of it.
So maybe maybe.( fingers crossed )
I have the slixx sheet to do the solid white panel version.
But would love to have this version instead .
I’d also like decals for the speed win dart from New York

Wow that’s really neat I’ve always wondered what to do with that chopped merc . I was thinking gasser but I like your idea better

Slixx made decals , but not for this seldomly seen paint version there’s not even a picture of this paint scheme in her book . I’m guessing it’s late 1969 . If someone would make them I’d be down for a set

This build required slightly complicated quarter panel swap to alter the resin bodies wheel base I showed the process in the wip section here. I also removed the side trim. After it was painted I added the rocker & wheel well trim along the trim on the top of the quarter panels with my Molotow pen . It would be great to have more Huston Platt decals I’d really like to build 66 Chevy 2 and the 67-68 Camaro funny car .
smh resin bodyamt awb Chevy 2 kit
amt 69 Torino: rear open wheels
yester year decals
tamyia: black paint
amt 63 impala : the top of the scratch built hood scoop
until next time thanks for looking, Mik

Another great looking Landy Dodge out of your stable . I’m really glad you stayed with the turquoise engine color as it just looks pretty that way. I don’t know about you but I really want to build the Cornet however I want to match the blue I used on my charger and hemi dart and it’s been so many years ago I can’t remember the brand or the shade of blue I used. Also I need slixx to reissue the Dick landy sheet with the mix of mopar kits on the market it would make good business sense for them.

First of all no I am not using a rare johan kit . Yes the AMC fuel burner is the only johan piece. This is a real miss mash of parts that I’ve accumulated over the last eight years. I’ve been trying to get to some of my more obscure projects as a break from all of the mustangs and Camaros . So stay tuned

Here’s the mockup there’s still a little ways to go . I still have to make some time to get it in my cousin’s spray booth to air brush a cleat blue mist around the dark blue edges. Then glass and decals .

It looks great it also looks like you live warm dry painting climate. By the way what paint did you use for the blue ?

I just finished part one of the paint job .Part two will be a dusting some clear blue around the dark blue edges which I’m not really looking forward to because I’ll have to unearth the air brush . Most of the chassis is now done , and most of the fuel burning cammer is done. My favorite engine of all time.

It would make good business sense for them to reprint this sheet. The last sheet I used on the 68 charger and the big orange side pieces were really brittle.
