Really beautiful olds, right up my alley, all this hard work paid off and the color id perfect for the period. You do great justice to these old kits. Thanks for sharing them.

Mario, sorry I  got your name in the wrong place. I've been busy and haven't had as much time to post but if even one person enjoys seeing my models, I will keep showing them. Thanks for your comments.

Right now I'm finishing a Revell 1962 Imperial 4 door hardtop.  -Rich

Real sharp looking car Rich. I saw a 59 60 Lincoln Continental of yours earlier that looked just as good. The attention to detail on both is jaw dropping.

Thanks John, I've posted 6 or 8 models over the last few weeks.

Big fan of the Tri-5 GM cars and 4-door hardtops, so this is really attractive to me! Nice color combo for this that handsome body. Well done.

Thanks Rusty, I like all 4 doors including wagons, and have many.

I also have to ask what's the story with all those Avantis off to the side?

Thanks  Kevin, back in the 80's I was involved in manufacturing 1/43 white metal models as well as doing commissioned model builds. These Avantis are leftovers from a project we were working on. These are some I painted back then that I plan to finish someday. I have parts for 1-200 of these. Feel free to PM me if you want more info. -Rich

  3. Sorry, I haven't posted a model for a while as I've been busy with yard work, etc. I have  posted a few modified diecasts, however.

I have  2 of these reissue promo kits molded in white but found this one molded in the correct yellow so decided to build it instead of one of the others. My dad bought  a new 56 Olds 88 4 door sedan in these same colors when I was 5 years old. My mom picked the colors.

Some of these reissues had quite an offset at the parting lines. The Olds and the 59 Dodge were two of them. I did a lot of filing and sanding to get rid of them. If you've built one of these you know what I'm talking about. The yellow is just polished plastic, the white is lacquer. I used Modelhaus tires and interior. It has the promo style chassis it came with but I added wheelwells to it.

The windows were a very poor fit. I cut out the side windows since I had an interior. I also had to do a lot of cutting, filing, and fitting to get the front and rear glass to fit in tight. I also added clear lenses to the chromed headlights.

I've been wanting to do this one for years and am glad to finally have it on display.

Thanks for looking. Questions and/or comments are welcomed.   -Rich

  4.   My mother had the exact car in white with a red interior,  blackwalls , and no bumper guards. I painted and detailed the interior, filed off the bumper guards, detailed the grille, got rid of the black dots in the headlights, and foiled over most all of the printed on chrome trim.

The first 3 photos are how it came from the factory.

Thanks for looking. Feel free to comment, good or bad.  -Rich

Beautiful.  When you say polished the body.  Did you just use a polishing or rubbing compound?  Looks fabulous

Hi David, I use Meguiars Plastx to polish plastic.  Sometimes I wax the model after but don't think I did on this one.

    Thanks for your comment.  -Rich

  8. Here are a couple of 1/43  Trax models I've changed to left hand drive. I modify a lot of diecasts in different scales.

The wagon came with wide whitewalls. I hand painted the narrow ones. The stock Valiant  is a modified racer like the one  you see in the photos. I added chrome hubcaps and the wide whitewalls came  from the wagon.  I have many other Trax models in 1/43 and 1/24.

I know the wagon is shorter than the American version but it's still a nice model.

Thanks for looking and feel free to comment.  -Rich

  9. I have three AMT 59 Lincoln 3 in 1 kits built up. I had a bunch of the Craftsman Series  issues so decided to build one of them. You might guess I like 59 Lincolns (and 60 too).

This is built right out of the box except that I used Modelhaus AMT 59 style tires as the ones in this kit were the 61 style tire and didn't have wide whitewalls. I did not paint the body, I just polished the plastic. I am happy the way it came out.

I hope you like this one. I didn't take interior photos before assembling it. I welcome comments, good and bad.   -Rich

A little gem from Jo-Han gets the clean build it deserves!

IIRC this was one of the promo tools they opened up to add more detail for the USA Oldies series, borrowing the engine and underhood details from the '62 F-85.

Yes, you are correct. Thanks for your comments.

There is an incredible array of superbly built subjects to look at on this forum, but your restoration of these old jewels is the sort of thing I always hope to see more of when I come here. Not only are they rare, but you are really doing them justice with excellent paint and trim work. Your intricate painting of those interiors is impressive as well. As a replica stock fan, I find the color choices you’ve made for these cars really nice and very realistic.
I have a number of old built ups of my own from this era that I hope to do the same thing with, so seeing yours has me inspired. Thanks for sharing yours!

Thanks Eric, I'll be posting more.
