  1. We'll be there, there's no doubting that. I wanted to go to Cookeville today, but things just didn't work out for it. Do you know if the novice class is for novice adults or kids? I'd like to let my son enter something if he can finish something between now and then. I doubt I'll enter, but I'm sure my friend that's going will. Hopefully they'll have some good vendors. I remember a time when there used to as many as 5 shows in the Knoxville/Sevierville/Rutledge area. But then, I also remember a time when there used to be hobby shops too. Kinda depressing. I've been wanting to make a SPAM meeting, but I've got to get coordinated with you. I'm about an hour away from you guys. Someday...
  2. Hi guys. I ran across this show looking for info on the Cookeville show. It's 4/19/2008 at the Knoxville Civic Coliseum Auditorium, and I was wondering if anyone was going. A friend and I had been years ago, and we didn't even know they still did it. We'll definitely be there. It's the only one close to us now. Anyone else?
  3. Could someone please give me some info on the Cookeville, Tn show. It's almost close enough that I might be able to make it to it. Thanks.
  4. I like that kit. I've been meaning to pick one up. Please keep the pics coming.
  5. I love it!! I'm wanting to start on my next street rod soon, but it's waiting it's turn in line. As always, Lyle, you do beautiful work.
  6. Thanks guys! You all have definitely given me plenty of ideas to play with. Went in to Hobby Lobby the other day and found something I'd not seen before. They had 2 different CA 2 part epoxies. One was a 5 min. and the other was a 30 min. Are these worth trying out? I'm gonna do the bondo method for the project I've been asking about in this thread, but I wanted to ask about the CA epoxy, too. Thanks again!
  7. I don't know about Goodyear, but I know some of the other tire manufacturers sell their tread molds after so many years of production. This may be the case with the tires used in these kits. The tire that was a Goodyear XYZ (just generic term) could not be a Goodyear tire anymore. Just one example that I'm familiar with was a Yokohama tire (one of their performance tires, forget exactly which one) was discontinued. Yoko kept the name with a different number at the end, think AV1 became AV2 kinda thing, but the tread pattern and mold was sold to Wanli (I think it was Wanli). So, if an older kit came with the original Yoko tires, but was rereleased, I could see an issue. I wouldn't think they could put the Yoko name on it, but they couldn't put the Wanli name on without changing the whole sidewall. (Wanli didn't call it the same thing Yoko did.) This may not be the reason, but I think it very well could be.
  8. Thanks guys! You just saved me some money. Much appreciated.
  9. Hi everybody. I'm slowly trying to get my workbench set up again. I've been digging through my supplies and began to realize something. Most of my paint is old. I'm talking 5-10 years old. Is it still good? Does paint go bad? If this is a dumb topic, I'm sorry. Thanks in advance. PS: If it matters, it's a combination of acrylics and enamels.
  10. Thanks for the tips guys! I'm going to experiment with the super glue and CA method. I've got some of the red spot putty, but God only knows how old it is. Unfortunately, HL doesn't carry any type of plastic or styrene stock, just the metal RR stuff. I appreciate all the help here. I've got a long way to go. Thanks again!
  11. As far as some of the suggestions you guys made, I need to elaborate on my location. The only hobby type store I have near me is a Hobby Lobby. I have no real hobby shops. I'm not familiar with Milliput. I've heard of it, but that's about it. I also no longer have access to styrene, without driving about 50 miles for it. The ideas you guys are giving all sound great, but could you point me to somewhere online to get the stuff? I'm sorry to be a nag.
  12. Hi everyone. What I'm trying to do is this, I've got a kit with a molded in body kit (ground effects). I don't like them and I want to "sand" them off. I've got the sides done with little to no problems. I've started looking at the back bumper, and for me to make it smooth and even with the sides, I'm gonna have to fill in the back of the body kit. The problem is the side skirts were solid, but the back part is V'ed. What I mean by this is if you're looking at it from the side, it looks like<. So, if I grind it smooth, I'm gonna go through it. Is there something that I can fill this with, sand/grind it, and it hold the bottom part that will seperate during the grinding process? Really bad attempt to demonstrate, see below. I hope I've explained this with out making it confusing. (I know I'm confusing myself) Thanks! model_drawing.bmp
  13. Thanks for all the kind words. The apparent lack of egos and attitudes was one reason I joined. I see to much of that in some of my other hobbies, which is part of the reason I'm drifting away from some of them. This site has already been a help with a lot of questions just with the search. So, thanks again for all the kind words, and I look forward to sharing our progress with you. Just a warning on progress, I'm slow.
  14. Hello all. I've been a lurker here for a little while, and decided I'd register. I've been out of the hobby for a while now, but my son is pulling me back in. I used to live up in Maryland, and I was blessed enough to be a part of MAMAs for the short time I was up there. Loved it and miss those guys! I'm in Tennessee again, and will be for a long while. I've been building for 20 plus years, but taken about a 5 year break. No reason, just time, mostly. Now, I've got an 8 year old that's starting to get interested, so I thought it was time to make a return. My primary builds are muscle cars, street trucks, and the occasional import. I also like to do curbsides, as I'm not really very good at the fine details I'd like to do on interiors and engines. I'm sure I'll bug you guys to death, but I'll also help with anything I can. Thanks for letting me join, and safe and happy modeling to you all! Danny (aka Bo)
  15. Hi everybody. I'm new here, and I figured this would be the best place to say hello. Seeing as I've averaged more than 1 car for each year I've been alive, I'm definitely a car nut. I don't have digital pics of my cars, except the wife's toy, but here's the list. Dailys: 90 Mazda Cab Plus pickup- 10xK original, tinted glass, lowered a couple of inches, and driven 96 Impala SS- sewer pipe intake, tint, stereo 98 Lincoln Navigator- tint, stereo, K&N FIPK, and lots of road trips 94 Accord- the family dependable backup, beaten to death, totaled twice, still around. Now for the funner stuff: 2, yes 2 69 Camaros: hard top is mine, unrestored (but needs it), gutted interior, black primer, built 327, BW T5 5sp, 4.10 posi convertible: inline 6, glide, and unmolested. 3rd owners 64 Chevelle- lawn ornament at the moment, nothing original, fun cruiser 71 Chevy PU fleetside, short box, no motor or trans, awaiting its day of glory. I'll add more pics after I get 'em, and I'll also do a normal introduction. Nice rides to you other folks, especially the classics and odd stuff!
